neither does a paladin fit
staying true to the lore, there can only be 12 (i think it was ) paladins in the world
neither does druid
druids were a bunch of sacrificial maniacs
neither does shaman
they are supposed to commune with nature and tell others what to do, not go into battle
and the list goes on...

Warlock is another. It's sometimes used as the male form of witch, a sorcerer, or a practitioner of dark arts. Some of those can easily apply to mages a word that has roots in magi which is often interpreted as a wise-man or a learned man.

M'eh.
The Dungeons and Dragons books set this straight for me I suppose. You're right that all classes are warriors, and in DnD a warrior was basically just an untrained infantry man. They called them Fighters, but I guess that's really just playing semantics.
Hell, they differentiated between Wizard and Sorcerer =P Wizard being more mage, Sorcerer being more Warlock
Although I think that the 'Hunter' class fits more closely to the DnD 'Ranger' class, or even to the ranger that came popular from the LoTR lore...
Something to think about...

fit a trained soldier rather than a just an average warrior who picked a sword and a shield and went to war...
ˈwarrior noun
a soldier {a person who serves in an army; a person engaged in military service.} or skilled fighting man, especially in primitive societies
meh...
i might disagree with you blademeld, paladins fit their names pretty well, they represent lights retribution or a warrior with a religious cause or so
pal·a·din Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. any one of the 12 legendary peers or knightly champions in attendance on Charlemagne.
12...
also druids are famous for sacrifices but also they believe in shapeshifting which makes em abit close to how blizzard portray them.
druid
noun
a pre-Christian priest among the Celts of ancient Gaul and Britain and Ireland
priest...
and spiritual leaders (shamans, medicine men) do participate in wars... mainly for moral stuff.
moral support >.>
to hell with enhancement shamans...
hunters fit a beast master more than a ranger, a ranger is skilled in both melee and range and doesnt need a beast. i wonder why blizzard didnt just called them beast masters :p
hunt·er Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. a person who hunts game or other wild animals for food or in sport.
I think the key word there is "animals"
You have to realise that there are multiple definitions for 1 word, and the most correct definitions usually arise from the root. not saying that your points are wrong, just saying all of the names can be applied to different meanings and hence, they can all be incorrect

i think mentioning charlemagne means that your looking at it historically rather than just looking at it from wow lore, in wow lore theres alot of paladins
yes, but in wow lore, warriors are a class ;)
plus, there aren't that many paladins in warcraft lore, paladins are only 2-3 generations old
you can just call a murloc a warrior and this compare him to anduin lothar or hellscream lets say, as all are warriors :/.
That's comparing a level 5 and a boss level mob... note the difference in skill level...
read my first post to know my point of view i did mention that hunters use animals, but trust me its ridiculos trying to hunt a rabbit with a bear or a boar when you can just use a falcon...
yes, but in wow... most hunters in lore are associated with tigers(NE) and bears (dwarves)
this is where the interpretations get mixed up, for the paladin example, you use wow lore, and for hunter lore, you use RL example...
like I've said, it's open for interpretation, but you shouldn't identify one class with RL lore and then compare another class with WoW lore, stick to one or the other

Oo
you read wowwiki to compare murlocs to level 70 PC's? you should be proud to compare murlocs and yourself!
it's good to see that you tackle a topic from more than one perspective, but in this case, it just means that you aren't coherent with your arguements and statements
but I see where you're coming from... makes more sense after about.... ten minute's worth of written works...
interesting theory, but tbh I don't think that blizzard cares... it's not like it's going to affect their income...
you come from a RP server?

melee type i found that blizzard failed at naming warrior class... specially after having fun playing the barbarian and enjoying being called a barbarian in d2 :).
I understand that completely
when wow first came out, i took paladins due to the D2 influences... boy was I diappointed...
/salute
