I agree with the OP 100%.
There will always be people who don't read the stickies. That's a shame, but it's just a fact, and no amount of harsh reprimands, thread locks, etc. will ever change that. It is totally inappropriate for people to flame a brand new user for an innocent question, no matter how ignorant such a question may be. The appropriate action in that case is to educate the user, to make a better poster out of them. If all responses were of this type, we'd not only have more helpful users—our forums would also be less attractive to trolls. Who wants to troll someone who's nice and helpful all the time?
The trouble is, how to enforce this?
Force new users to read every stickies before being allowed to post!
