I am sorry, but there is a flaw in design. First, neither one of you read the stickies. Second, your friend asked a "best" question that was too general. Best out of all 3 trees? Best tanking, DPS, or healing? Best utility? Best at tanking a boss, or best at tanking multiple mobs?
Your friend just made himself look like a very ignorant person.

There's another problem with this: Wowhead cannot control the communities that use Wowhead.
Let's look at it this way: You didn't like them, they probably don't like you either. How's Wowhead going to decide to take action against whom?

As a frequent of the Warlock forums, I can say that it gets
very
annoying when there is a flow of people who ask too general of a question or a question that is easily answered by reading the stickies. Though some users are a bit unfriendly with directing the posters to a sticky, it's only natural after seeing many people either not reading them or simply ignoring their advice in favor of wanting to be spoon-fed answers. Much hard work goes into guides and stickies, so it's almost insulting for one to ignore them.
As ArgentSun said, your friend made himself look like a very ignorant person; but let it be a lesson learned.

I'm fairly sure I wrote that he said "The best LVLING spec for a druid"
He wasnt looking for end content or anything.
Do you want to aoe grind? Go feral tank. Do you want to level fast? Go feral dps. Do you want to level as a caster? Go balance. Do you want to level doing dungeons? Go resto.

Looks like I missed a word somehow. I thought my reply proved that I had read your concern - apparently that was not the case.
I, however, stand by my word. Less than 30 seconds in the Druid forums sticky brought me to
this
post, the beginning of which reads:
What is the fastest way to level a druid?
Feral is commonly regarded as the fastest level spec, though some argue that at higher levels Balance equals or overtakes it in terms of leveling speed.
A quick break down of where to spend talents to give the fastest possible leveling speed is as follows:
At level 21
,
At level 32
,
At level 50
(this will involve a respec),
At level 61
,
At level 71
. After level 71 you can place your talents where you like or respec to your desired final build
If you prefer to level Balance as an alternative to Feral, I advise waiting until you reach Outland (~lvl58) before switching. While its prefectly possible to level from 1-80 as balance, the earlier levels can be particularly painstaking. If you do level balance pre-outland use the level 58 build as a guide to aim for.
level 58
,
level 60
,
level 70
,
level 79
Granted, I am well-acquainted with the forums, but even somebody who visits rarely can follow my train of thought (Forums - Classes - Druid - Helpful Threads; then either "Druid Guide, Part 1: Overview, Class Mechanics,
Leveling
" or "Druid FAQ").
Please don't use my mistakes, minor or not, to avoid the problem at hand. Your friend did not use something we've made easily and readily accessible, so neither you, nor him/her has right to complain. Sorry for sounding harsh, but I am a blunt person, and this is better said now, before anyone decides to engage in a more... active discussion.

I agree with the OP 100%.
There will always be people who don't read the stickies. That's a shame, but it's just a fact, and no amount of harsh reprimands, thread locks, etc. will ever change that. It is totally inappropriate for people to flame a brand new user for an innocent question, no matter how ignorant such a question may be. The appropriate action in that case is to educate the user, to make a better poster out of them. If all responses were of this type, we'd not only have more helpful users—our forums would also be less attractive to trolls. Who wants to troll someone who's nice and helpful all the time?
The trouble is, how to enforce this?

I can kind of see where you are coming from; but who's at fault, the person who skips over the sticky specifically titled
Read Before Posting
, or the person who points that out to the person?

I would answer the question civilly and point to the stickies, with or without a link. You know most of the others won't. Why won't they? Because animosity on Internet allows it.

I have a different opinion, that being: if you give slack for one person, others expect the same.

The trouble is, how to enforce this?
The rhetorical isn't very rhetorical, as it is quickly answered with "Better forum software". A PM feature, as well as a you're-banned-for-a-specific-time-period-rather-than-eternity button which moderators could use would do wonders to deal with those who insist on biting the newbies/noobs.
Another item that could be useful would be the idea of assigning points to offenders, available to moderators . Those with high enough points are banned for a period of time. This is a system I've seen elsewhere work, not great, but enough so for people to know where the boundaries are.

Again, from my experience;
Not reading stickies
usually
implies:
lack of interest and research
lack of common sense
lack of knowledge of game mechanics

I'm not suggesting that these users shouldn't be redirected to the stickies. They should always be redirected to the stickies. I AM saying that it's inappropriate to be rude or abusive to them in any way for their initial failure to read them, because it creates a situation where a new user's first experience on the forum is people being rude to them. The forums are then ruined forever for that person.
And we HAVE a number of the features you describe, but only administrators have the ability to ban people. I don't see that policy changing any time soon.

Most public forums are built using a 3rd party framework, like
VBulletin
or
phpBB
, which were built by developers who didn't have anything to worry about OTHER than their forum software. =/ Either way your point is taken, though.
