As per
Sticky Situation
I am looking to write up a full moonkin guide for everyone out there to be kept up to date as time progresses.
First of all:
Druid Guide, Part 5: Moonkin DPS
Druid FAQ: Balance Section
Of the two above threads do you see anything that would be left out in the conversion to the latest data? Do you have anything to add? Would you change the order information is displayed? Please take the the time to review the two threads before answering.

The post "Druid Guide, Part 5: Moonkin DPS" is completely outdated. Everything should be left out of it.

I only have the energy to take several hours reviewing one FAQ per day. I'll try to comb yours in a day or two.

I'm only looking for Sections that may be lost in my frenzy of typing or overlooked. I don't want to leave anything pertinent out nor do I want it to be unreadable by the people who are going to use this most. So my questions are readability and what is missing I have my own list but i want to see what others view as missing.

Just my own two cents, but given the change with eclipse coming up in the next patch you may want to hold off on writing a guide that could (at least for purposes of rotation) be outdated in just a couple months.
so.. instead of working on it now.. and updating it later... you want to just put it off entirely?
the only thing changing in 3.2 (from a pve balance perspective) is the loss of our free 4% hit via balance of power, and the separation of eclipse cooldowns.
@Curlymon
an updated moonkin guide would be an excellent idea. the only thing i'd like to see more of is the comparison of spell haste to spell power and spell crit. the FAQ only has a paragraph dedicated to it, and since theres so much more of it available now than back in BC, I think it would help the moonkin populous.

Thank you for the input I will make sure to put in both sides of the arguement and how the pertain to the 3.2 changes. One thing i want to say is that the 4% hit from talents is staying where it is for 3.2. The patch notes affect the second half of that talent that is basically aa 4% reduction in chance to being hit by spells, making the second part usefull for PvE but much more for PvP.

Confession: I didn't read this at all. However, it says "updated for 3.2 PTR"; so, if you haven't read this thread, give it a look.

I've not seen it since the update but I will review it. Thank you for the link.

make it WITHOUT the holes of most guides.
Remember when you reach Northrend, don't worry about your gear at first.
Then when you get T8 you are set.
UHHHH WTF
In the first instances when you reach 80 you want to get int and mp5 from your Uldar drops.
UHHH again aren't you missing something?

Can you elaborate on this? I'm not sure what you are trying to say.

curlymon please don't take my comment as directed at you.
It just now so many guides are not guides.
well sort of. I am always amazed that guides are labeled beginner or something like that and start off with what the author thinks of his T9 gear.
And don't do anything or try anything until you reach 80. Next sentence is gearing for Heroics, get good stuff. Next sentence is once you have your T7+ gear.
HEY if you a person is wearing that high a gear and needs a guide GOD we are all doomed.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
rant over :)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
it is just that so many guides now seem to only talk about 1 thing, End game. The author starts off like they are going to tell a noob healer or dps how to gear and what talents. Ok we are ready to try our first instance, now try this. OR you might want to do this. If you need mana, or you are 0 on haste then a different spec is needed. ETC
I guide should be a guide, and can be opinionated by exp as well as or excluding hard numbers.

Oh nothing personal I just couldn't make sense of what you had typed :P
I do want it to be informative to the people that will actually benefit from this guide rather then the hardcore min-maxers out there. I'm well knowledgable In the art of the boomkin but play in a casual guild so I feel I might be uniquely suited for this. BUT when the guide comes out it will still be rough and any and all are welcome to provide input to make it the best it can be. There will be opinion, as only a technical document should have none, but I hope to provide the opposing views as well as my own.

Curlymon I am sorry for going off on a rant that in now way helped this thread.
I am a noob 80 playing kitty the entire way and I hope you can share what you know and show me and others what we are supposed to do. What gear we should look for and how to get started.
Just because someone is 80 does not mean that we have ever tried to cast a spell much less know about boomer gear or casting.
Sure there is a vast stack of information for all druid as well as all classes. But as I said most make some general comments and then start talking about raid stuff in the second sentence.
OK maybe not that bad :)

To be fair the guide will primarily cover Moonkin raiding at 80 so a goodly portion of it will be raid centered. But there will be sections for the leveling boomer and gearing ideas for the various levels of raiding endgame.
P.S. "going" for a captcha!

Most of the sections from the BC guide could stay as they still have value i'd say. They are in dire need of updating in terms of "data", but the principles and questions that they address still seem to be interesting to me. (i hope it's not just my bias as original writer)
That being said, the "who do we group with" can be canned as it is completely useless now, and most of the math part should probably be canned too (unless you found a way to make it readable with the added haste/crit complexity, but i don't see how on my side).
Everything in the FAQ is good and recent :p
edit : as an advice, it's better to do a lot of small posts each covering one topic rather than a few big ones with subsections in them, helps a lot with flexibility for editing afterwards.

Yeah I'm looking at the math and TBH it's frightening to think about making it clear and concise...
I just want to make sure there are no sections that really need to be added due to the changes. I've got a list but wanted to see if anyone had other thoughts.

Oops, forgot to think about what could be added:
- levelling tips
- gear lists (i'm not enthusiastic about those, always hated doing them)
- who covers our buffs/Debuffs, and who has the better ones (ebon plague (unholy) > E&M > CoE, IS > scorpid sting, ...)
- profession comparison ? Though they are mostly equal (or will be with JC nerfs and all the upgrades planned) so it'd mostly be a small and rapid listing for sake of clarity and choice i guess. Perhaps better for the FAQ since there aren't many parameters that would differ based on spec (tailoring for cloak enchants and engineering for hand enchants maybe)
- expand the mana regeneration part with a comparison of what brings what and explaining why int is the better regen stat in most cases.
- PvP (ie arena) ? I'm not able to help on that :/
- 5 man tips ? using eclipse or not depending on what trashes you are facing, ... ?
- raid tips : hodir, vezax, or other specific cases. Could also include a "how to plan movement and instants" part since raiding is where you have to dps and move the most.
I'm not quite sure some of those should really make it into the guide honestly, but that's about all i can think of at the moment.
Regarding the math used to determine rotations, i think the best that can be done would be preserving the part about damage per mana (allows to ignore haste) and give average damage output for each spell, which is at the basis of the decision of what to drop depending on circumstances.
Explicit scaling with spellpower for each spell
And then just talk about what the use and limits of haste and crit are for each spell (without math, but allows to introduce the caps that will be talked about when regarding stat priorities and gearing). We could make a link to
this: a tale of two ratings
, but the sole math that i would use when comparing haste and crit would be explain how the rating conversion favors haste quite heavily and leave the rest to conclusions from sheets and simulators.
