Moonkin Form Question

Why does Moonkin increase your AP by 150% and have the proc on melee? What is the point of that exactly? I just think it's a little contradictory to what Balance is all about, unless I am missing something and everyone knows something I don't. Besides the 3% chance to crit, I don't see the point of getting this, they should make it increase spell damage and have a chance to regen mana on spell crits or something.
I can almost understand the chance to regen mana on melee hit, almost, but the increased AP? C'mon now, do Moonkins even go for AP?
Just been a little curious about diving into the Balance tree to see what it's all about, looks like fun but I'm trying to understand it before I check it out.

Ok, I will explain or will try atleast, 150% attackpower is because of the mana regen, the amount regend is tied to your attackpower. It is 5% to crit :) the regen because of critting would be in line with the paladins, which got nerfed, and I think it will too good.
And moonkin goes for ap ?
Hell yeah, if I was (yes was) (almost) oom with my moonkin I would innervate or equip Terestian's Stranglestaff and go hit would regen 300+ mana per hit. Not too bad tbh, and with the staff being "Increases attack power by 829 in Cat, Bear, Dire Bear, and
Moonkin
forms only. it is what balance is about, well druids atleast. Not saying this is a very very good way to get mana but you can regen mana pretty well if need be, your dps will go down however.

A thing Blizzard needs to work on imo. There used to be a talent in the old moonkin talent tree called Imbued Weapons or Weaponry and increased damage dealt with melee weapons - and that was before the mana regen on hit thingy was introduced. I have a feeling that moonkins were supposed to be what enhancement shamans now are with their Shamanistic Rage - or at least there are similarities.

I just think it's a bit misleading, I know the increased AP is good for the mana regen that is based on AP, but really how much AP would you have in your caster gear anyways? Just doesn't make sense to me.

400% armor increase is due to the crazy aggro fattykins generate. There is no aggro reducing spell for druids other then cower in catform. So if you drop a couple crits in a row(not hard to do with 25% spell crit) and the mob comes barreling down on you , atleast you can take a few smacks in the face before tank gets aggro back. But the AP/mana regen is truely lost on me too. I guess they noticed druids lack of CC so when they get close you wack away with a weak weapon.
p/s Fattykins need more spells. Wrath spam and 12hr SF casts are lame.

Yeah, I agree that they should make it more caster oriented. I mean gosh, I'd rather have anything over the mana regen on melee hit, it doesn't even have to be something that regens mana, perhaps spell crits cause 50% less threat or something, maybe 10% less threat on all spells.
400% armor is good because like someone said, roots isn't a reliable CC so they need to be able to take hits, we actually had a moonkin offtank Kara once all the way to Prince, it was a lot of fun.
Just something remotely good would be better than what's already there, because imo, it's next to useless (for grouping).

The AP increase is just there to make the mana tick somewhat significant, there's no internal logic to look for in that thing.
It's a completely useless thing for raids usually, since you're supposed to do whatever you can do not go oom while not dropping your dps. While it can be used on fights like the start of Karazhan if you don't want to drink a potion for such simple bosses, but on any serious fight you should use whatever other means you have.
It's marginally usefull when farming, when the mob is at 100-200 life left and I don't want ot burn the mana to kill it...
