I don't understand how a Marksman taking IHM is gimping their DPS. That's a nice AP boost from three points.
But let's say indeed taking IHM is a DPS gimp, what's a better option?
This is the spec I'm running with now:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#cxbZ0eAsRhzGIkguVox00b:IfZMzm
If I took the 3 points out of IHM I could top up Improved Barrage and take a point in ISS, but one point in ISS is a 5% proc chance which seems negligible, and the full 3 in Imp. Barrage boosts one shot's crit rate. Maybe that makes the difference, I don't know exactly. Or I could take 3/3 ISS.
To me it seems odd to not have either Aspect Mastery or IHM (IHM is more appealing now).
I'm more than willing to accept that my assumptions are wrong as I do feel I could, and should, do more DPS (I came out at 3500 dps over the Arachnid and Plague wings last night in a 25 man, which did top the meter). And for what it's worth there are only two Hunters in the raid.

The only way it would be gimping you is if another hunter in the raid has it also, because they don't stack. They're very good points, especially if your group has multiple hunters. It's true that the points can be better spent for dpsing, but it's not a huge difference.

I would look at it this way.
If your running with multiple hunters in a raid group (we personally run with 3) the MM hunter is already bringing a buff, TSA. So its not that much of a change to bring IHM as well.
With the recent efficiency changes to MM, making us more mana friendly, we can drop whatever mana efficiency talents we have. I personally bring both buffs, TSA and IHM. I have not noticed a dps decrease, however, I have only had the chance to test it last night, so future testing will be needed.
The other hunters however, well, their DPS went up, in a big way. I am sure that a couple of things were at play here, however the added bonus from IHM and the glyph certainly had them smiling :P
Side note: Not sure if it was just me, however I noticed that my mark would sometimes be overridden by one of the other hunters. This is confusing, as neither of them have specced into it. Has anyone else noticed/experienced this since the patch release?

I'd like to point this sidemark done by Melennas not only cause of confusion those overrides make but also of IHM bonus itself - which one is on the target? The 1st cast IHM or 2nd usuall HM cast by different hunter?

Ok, where would you suggest putting those three points? With the spec I have, put 2 into topping off Improved Barrage and a point into ISS?
The reason I'm curious is that I'm considering two Marks specs, a "personal" DPS spec and a raid-with-multiple-Hunters spec. Sometimes I'm the only Hunter, sometimes there are more.
If I'm the only Hunter, and IHM isn't the most efficient DPS talent, I'd be interested in an alternate spec. If there are more Hunters, then I'm happy to bring IHM to help the raid.
I am not in the camp that Catreann outlines, I'm just looking at different options. Though I'm not sure why s/he's suggest BM Hunters taking IHM. BM stacks AP because it transfers to their pet but the Hunter's Mark AP boost is for ranged attacks only so it won't help their pet (it used to, once upon a time, but not now).
Good to know about the bug of non-IHM Hunter's Marks over-riding the better one, I'll be sure to point that out to the other Hunter in tonight's raid.

It's funny that everyone expects MM hunters to take Imp Hunter's Mark thereby gimping their DPS. Now that MM & SV are pretty much identical in terms of DPS, why does MM have to now sacrifice? If SV is bringing Replenishment already, doesn't that make them utility of sorts, but if they bring IHM & Replenishment, that's a nice buff. People are forgetting that for 2 years Survival WAS nothing but raid utility.

I just did a quick check on my spreadsheet, and from what I'm seeing, putting 2 points into Improved Steady Shot and 1 point into Improved Barrage would be the best way to go if you take out IMH. As for your last glyph slot, Steady Shot will be your best bet.

Ferocious Inspiration is overwritten by a Ret Pallies aura, making it pretty much obsolete. TSA is starting to shine through as more DK's are going to the unholy tree for raid dps.

Really? 2/3 ISS and 2/3 Improved Barrage with Steady Shot glyph? Huh.
I'll give it a try for comparison's sake.
Seems odd though, but thanks for looking into it for me!
