Dear Wowhead,
I've been tanking for quite a while now. I got full epic tanking gear (only one blue trinket), but healers always complain about me getting too much damage.
Here's my armory.
Please help me with gearing up and advice for tanking better.
Thanks

1st mistake: Relying on your sigil to get to defense cap. Goto 5th mistake.
2nd mistake: Using blood to AoE tank. The +3miss% from frost is really nice for aoe tanking.
3rd mistake: Essence of gossamer. Run Reg ToC and get a black heart.
4th mistake: Heavy borean armor kits. Get defense enchant on chest. Get honored/exalted with Sons of Hodir or PvP should enchant until them. The quest line gets you to honored. Farm everfrost chips, do daily dungeon quest (the one with rep rewards, heroic or not), and hodir dailies.
5th mistake: Spending the gold to put epic gems in ilvl 200 items. Tanking heroics is full of groups of mobs. No pull is a single except bosses. Avoidance > stamina stacking for heroics. Replace some pure stamina gems for Def/stam gems and get to def capped, then replace that sigil for the conquest or triumph one for a huge boost in dodge.
6th mistake: Improved Icy touch > Blood caked blade for tanking, especially blood tanking.
7th mistake: Your glyphs. You are not speced into bone shield and yet you glyph'ed for it. WTF. Get glyph of vampric blood if your hell bent on staying blood tank. Get the minor glyph that raises your ghoul reagent free.
Are you tanking in frost presence? Are you keeping all mobs in front of you at all times? Are you using your cooldowns?

I should have said this before:
I'm def capped. WoWhead Profiler doesn't add the Defense from Stoneskin Gargoyle to the Defense. I am Def Capped.
@sunwukung
1. I'm not, it's just an extra.
2. I'll try out Frost tanking then.
3. I did ToC normal a lot and it got ninja'd lots of times. I'll go for it more ;-)
4. Defense on chest isn't neccesary, I'm working on Sons of Hodir.
5. Again, I'm def capped :)
6. I'll look into that. I may also respec to Frost.
7. The glyphs are leftovers from my previous Unholy spec. I will indeed change them to tanking.
I am tanking in Frost Presence of course, I do try to keep them in front of me. I'm not popping all my cooldowns though, I tend to save them for the OH $%^&-moments.

Thank you, Raulnor. At least one person noticed it :). What do you think of my spec? Is it full of fail?

Not full of fail, i consider tanking with that spec quite imagineable, but its not ideal for those end-game parts.
Learn to use your cooldowns often. With better gear, oh-*!@# situations happen less and less frequently. The tanking cooldowns should never get dusty, they are there to be put to good use, and a 1-2 minute cooldown is a really really low one.
I think of Blood tanking as the more hardcore tanking spec. You can achieve better threat, but for a price. You need to work much more to maintain the good threat. You have to know when to use Vampiric blood, otherwise the key advantage of Blood tanking gets wasted.
Frost tanking on the other hand is pretty simple, very user-friendly i would say. Of course, those end-game frost tanks probably put no less effort into their threat generation than blood tanks, but frost is just easier to start with. Especially the trash tanking tools are very useful.
Good Blood Tanking spec would be:

And a good Frost Tanking spec:

Thanks for the help.
I tanked as Frost before, so it should be possible.
What stats (health, avoidance etc) are recommended for DK Tanking ToC HC?

Thror
By ToC, you mean the dungeon, or the raid?
For the 5 men, your gear seems okay. Just get a healer who knows what he is doing, and it should go fine.
For 10 men ToC HC, tanks usually have over 20% parry and 25% dodge, hit cap, expertise soft cap, and... well, i dont know what HP a tank NEEDS to tank ToC HC, but i would not accept a tank with less than 36k hp unbuffed.

I meant the dungeon.
I dunno, but in ToC HC (dungeon) healers complain about my health, and you're telling me I can do it?

Those healers are just spoiled. At current point, it is not that hard to get a tank with a load of HP. Being a starter tank might be a little hard. The best way for a starter tank to improve and look for groups imo, would be a guild. A really casual guild, with nice people who arent all hardcore. They will be willing to take even a tank with a little less hp, and with their help you will get to better gear fast. Its really not that hard to get a lot of HP with the current emblem system, and such.

Yeah that's true. I'd raid my ass off if it weren't for school, friend and girlfriend. I'm guildless though and I have no idea which guilds on my server are casual but heck, I'll look around!
Thanks a lot for the help =D

Most of the DK's cooldowns are proactive uses and not reactive. Popping UBA at 15% isnt a good idea, knowing your gonna take a ton of dmg and pop it at 75% is better. VB should be used about 50% while taking heavy damage.
If your def capped, I am sorry. I don't use wowheads profiler very often. wowarmory and wow-heroes work better.
The conquest and triumph sigils are amazing for damage avoidance.
Concerning ITT, it isnt needed if you know someone else is bring the debuff, but it helps to offset the 3%miss your losing for not being a frost tank, especially in an aoe fight. I don't take it in my frost spec, only on my blood spec.
