I completely agree, only I wish I had the balls like you to just keep on drinking :) Some tanks are just idiots, not much you can do about it but leave.
This.

they just screwed themselves, tanks are a lot more common than healers, first rule of instances/raids: dont tick off the healer

True, but idk, when i tank sometimes i can zone out a little bit and accidentally pull during a break, even after a macro pops up.
I can see this though, just make sure that you don't fall into the elitist attitude that a lot of healers do. Not saying you are, just b careful, cuz i used to find myself being reeeeaal snobby on my resto shaman >.<, and noone likes that. That warning goes out to all healers reading this!

well you always have to watch the snobbiness, like i am my guilds best pvper, i know im not the greatest in the world but im better than most of my guild, and i have to watch it sometimes to make sure i dont get snobby

In a pug, wait for full mana. Each and every time.
Now, if you know the people you run with, you can start goofing around. I have a healer alt, a shammy, used to run heroics together with a tank from guild quite often. He was usually chainpulling everything everywhere, but it worked out just fine - he knew I always lug around mana injectors with me and know how to go on mana conservation mode and still heal through most of damage, I knew he has health pots and cooldowns/trinkets ready for rough situations, and that earth shield procs will save his ass for couple seconds while I drink up. The result? Fastest 5man runs I've been in.

Now, I don't have the full story, but here's my opinion based on what I have to go on. It sounds like either the tank made a bad pull, didn't hold agro, and the whole team was taking damage; -or- you are poorly geared.
I have NEVER had a healer with mana problems in an instance. When I heal an instance on my druid we never have to stop. I might have to pop an innervate on myself after like 12 pulls, but it's rare.
It just sounds to me like you have trouble managing your mana. You should work on that.
Also, demanding that you have 100% mana bar sounds a little selfish to me. "If I request a mana break, I should get it!" Yeah...

I run a prot/holy specced pally, and as far as I'm concerned, which ever spec I do a dungeon with, my approach is always the same:
As Tank:
1 Ask if healer is ready
2 Check if the rest is ready and knows what to do
3 Make sure I'm ready
4 Pull
As Healer:
1 Announce with /rw if I need food/drinks/buffs
2 Get ready
3 Tell tank I'm ready
4 Prepare to heal
Gotta admit it's far more easy as a tank, as it's my job to pull, and offer a certain degree of survivability to the party. If some tard thinks he/she should pull, then he/she can tank it.
As a healer, if one or more (regardless of it being the tank or not) chooses to ignore me, then I'll ignore him.
