"Perish the thought," Mercer grimaced, "I highly doubt I'm capable of planning right now. I also gotta at least jot down some guidelines for tomorrow's meeting, and yes, I'm aware that sounds somewhat contradictory."
He sighed, massaging his temples, "I don't even know. Be a darling and wake me in the morning if you get up earlier than I do, please?"

Baerla's smile faded when she heard the lament muttered more or less in the general direction of her face, "Yer noggin givin' ye trouble? Wanna me ta check it?"

JJ
Booty Bay
- "I will", JJ nodded and turned to open the door to his room. "Goodnight"
The room had a simple decor. A bed, a small desk and a wardrobe in the corner. The young man dropped his equipment in the corner of the room before kneeling next to the bed and taking a moment to pray quietly.
After washing himself and finishing the snack he ordered, JJ slipped between the sheets and fell asleep very quickly.

Alright, Mercer. Writing implements, check. Secluded environment, check. A desk, check. Time to get to work. After locking the door, Alistair closed his eyes and rubbed at them tiredly, then shook his head and settled down comfortably. He went through the contains of his briefcase once more and, not without effort, put the textbook on runes away. All his mental faculties had to be devoted to the meeting at hand. On the other hand, when the project was up and running- but now was neither the time nor the place to daydream.
The key to success or failure lay in the enterprises under the Baron's green thumb. There were bound to be some mass-producing facilities, otherwise Revilgaz would have already turned him down, but the question remained of whether they made enough of a profit when compared to the overall Blackwater revenue.
Mercer snorted. He was approaching this from the wrong end, he thought. He did not have the authority and reputation of a consulting mastodon to back him up, and Revilgaz was in no hurry to divulge the structure of his assets. Of course, the matter of a non-disclosure agreement that would allow such insight still had to be brought up, if only for future reference, but now there was precious little information to work with. He would have to wing it, based on whatever sub-company Revilgaz would direct him to test the trademark approach.
There was also the matter of his contract with the baron. The less he owed the goblin, the better. He would have to stress the fact that right now, he was to conduct a thorough and comprehensive cost-benefit analysis, rather than actually successfully implement the trademark.
Hrmph. He did not even know whether the Blackwater Raiders had an emblem that could be used as a trademark. Designing one was a separate task in and of itself, one that was not to be taken lightly.
There was a knock on the door. Mercer raised his head from his notes and was about to tell whoever they were off when he remembered his order. Grunting, Alistair rose from his chair and headed to the door. He opened it just wide enough to accept the bread and the juice, then locked it once more.
Say, whoever made this banana bread sure knew his craft. Tasty, just like the homemade banana pie that...
Just like the banana pie by Mercer's wife.
The next ten minutes or so Alistair spent rigidly still, looking directly in front of himself and clutching his wedding band as if someone were trying to tear off his ring finger.
He was alone on a backwater planet full of bloodthirsty warmongering natives with naught but a handful of coins and a bat at his disposal. He might never see his wife again. He might die the next day, all it would take was for his only companion to wander away.
Focus.
Breathe. Inhale, exhale.
Mercer growled through gritted teeth, forcing himself to get angry rather than afraid. He was not just any random everyman. He was not an average human, and not only because on this forsaken world, humans looked like bodybuilders and he, by extension, like a stick figure.
"I will not be contained," Alistair spoke aloud, just to hear the sound of his own voice and find however little comfort in it. "I refuse to be intimidated."
Time was a relative matter. Time travel in this particular plane of existence was possible. Mercer was going home, back to his wife, at exact time he left her. He would not let his thoughts of home weigh him down in a bout of self-pity, but find strength and inspiration with them. Whatever obstacle the world threw at him, he would get up and carry on, in his damn boots, one murdered goblin hobo at a time.
Inhale. Exhale. Focus.
Well, that was inspirational, he thought with a grimace. Sadly, the drama scene killed any chance for further work on the project. Mercer gobbled down approximately half of the banana bread and headed to the shower. Soon enough, he was fast asleep in his bed.

The inn/brewery was not far, and Jonas pushed open the door, entering into the raucous din of afternoon drinking, the second most important period of drinking in a dwarf's day. Stepping down the stairs, dodging the revelers, he found his way to the bar and dropped the bag with a wet slap.
The bartender looked up and to the bag, then Jonas looking extremely proud of himself.
"Huh." She pulled off the sack and peered inside. "Figured ya'd gone 'nd offed yerself by now."
"But we didn't!" Jonas said triumphantly. "We succeeded! Quest completed!"
The dwarf shrugged. "Reckon ya did. 'Nd in good time. Just gettin' ready ta be preparin' dinner stuffs now. Hol' on," she said, stepping through the swinging doors of the kitchen.
Jonas turned to the others, beaming.

Before Jonas could make a reply the winged doors flapped open and the barmaid returned. She plopped down two plates of steaming ribs and from her belt drew a small purse. "One...three...seven silver," she said, laying out the coins for their perusal. "There's your pay. Lunch included."
Jonas looked down at the silvery coins, glinting atop the bar. "That's..."
"Well what'd ye expect?" the dwarf scoffed, crossing her arms across her false beard. "We ain't rich 'erebouts. This's much as ah pay the old hunter. And you lot are carrying the weapons ah gave ya. Fair's fair."
