Bartender
- "Spannergitz. Please have a seat."
------------------------------------------------------
A few hours passed, with people coming and going. Some were obviously on business, heading straight to upstairs. Finally bartender Spannergitz nodded to the Mercer and JJ.
- "The Baron will see you now", he said gesturing towards the stairs.
The guard at the bottom of the stairs glared at the duo, but did not say anything.
The room on top of the stairs was a waiting room of sorts, with two more guards standing around and a scribe sitting at a table. The guards stepped infront of the men.
- "We will need you to give up any weapons you might have in your possession. They will wait for you here."

"Pleasure to meet you, mister Spannergitz," Mercer nodded and retreated to the nearest vacant table, gesturing at JJ to follow him. Once more or less comfortably seated atop a creaky wooden chair, he stretched his long legs and tried to relax.
If the Kirin Tor hounds had gotten their trail by now, it was no use worrying about it anyway, Mercer doubted they would fare any better in a direct confrontation than they had in Karazhan. Not worrying about something he could not influence, and concentrate on the immediate, solvable task, instead was something Mercer was still learning to do, and was gradually getting better at it.
Of course, if the magi
did
appear he would worry. A lot. And probably scream like a girl. But it was a big 'if'.
Alistair rolled his neck again and began rehearsing the theses he would present to the Baron. His gaze drifted off, his lips moved soundlessly, and on the whole he probably looked rather goofy.
The security was noticeably less lax than in the game. Then again, if you are a walking powerhouse clad in legendary metal scraps, it probably did not matter. Unfortunately, Mercer was not and it did matter. On the plus side it was an indication that the Baron took his rivals somewhat seriously, which
could
mean he was more likely to listen to reason and cooperate (read: give the earthmen food, rooms and money after Mercer was done with his presentation).
"I would gladly oblige, had I been carrying a weapon right now," Mercer said with an almost, but not quite, apologetic half-smile as he stepped up to the nearest guard and raised his arms to the sides.

The guards patted the duo down and then stepped aside again, one muttering something about crazy humans. The scribe by the table did not even bother to lift his gaze from a stack of papers.
- "The Baron is waiting inside."
The doors opened into a lavishly decorated office. Large bookcases lined one wall, while the other had large windows facing the bay. Different kinds of sofas and tables littered the room. At the end of the room was a large table and behind it sat a very formally dressed goblin. And behind the goblin stood an empty shredder.
- "Ahh Mr Gryphonheart welcome, have a seat", the goblin said politely and then glanced at JJ. "I can assure you that you will not need your bodyguard in this negotiation."
- "I have been told that you have a business proposition to make. One that could very profitable indeed. So let's say you have my curiosity."

"Greetings, Baron Revilgaz, and thank you for your time."
Mercer inclined his head in a polite nod, never taking his eyes off the goblin. He then proceeded to sit down as told, reclining in the chair and resting his elbows on the armrests.
"I have every confidence there shall be no need to call upon a bodyguard."
Translation from cordial business speak: if the 'negotiations' went south, Mercer would be in trouble with or without JJ's help. Heck, the Baron alone probably could take on the two of them easily.
"That said, Mr Sevast here is an, ah, associate. Is there any reason his presence would be detrimental to our meeting that I am unaware of?" he asked with his best smile. It was important to remain courteous... But something told Mercer it was also a good idea to show the mogul they were willing and able to haggle. All the while staying perfectly well-mannered, of course.

- "An associate?", the goblin scratched its chin. "My apologies, to you both, I was not aware of this fact. Please have a seat Mr Sevast."
The goblin observed the two men sitting opposite to him.
- "Now Mr Gryphonheart, please do present this proposal you have. I'm eager to hear it."

"Shimmerweed. Isn't that from the warcraft 3 bonus campaign? Wait, we are going to infiltrate durotar to gather brewing reagents?" Martin spoke out, confused. as always.

"Wha? Naw. They grow up on Shimmerridge, where tha trolls grow 'em."
"Wait, we're stealing herbs from trolls?"
"Well if it was easy I'd have no trouble gettin' it, would I?" the dwarf demanded sarcastically.
"...Excuse us a moment." Jonas turned to the others. "Well?"

"Of course, as soon as we have an understanding of our interaction."
Mercer steepled his fingers and looked intently at the goblin.
"I have several proposals, in fact. The first of them I shall relay to you here and now in full. If you decide it interesting, then we shall work together on further projects. If you find it nonprofitable and useless to your endeavors, we shall depart your premises and spend your valuable time no longer.
Does that sound reasonable, Baron?"

The goblin considered Mercer's words carefully.
- "It does. Go ahead Mr Gryphonheart."

"Capital. Now to the matter at hand.
"Your name, esteemed Baron, is an asset in and of itself, and can be monetized. You have gained a worldwide renown for your ability to spend money wisely. Let me give you an example of how that can serve you.
"Imagine, if you will, a mercenary captain who seeks to arm his company and is facing a rather tight time limit on deployment. He has to be sure his men's firearms will not jam and their swords will not shatter. Now, he can spend valuable hours inspecting each and every single weapon for flaws. He can recruit an experienced sword-smith and a firearms manufacturer of his own to do that inspection for him.
"But imagine now that someone has already performed that inspection and deemed this particular shipment worth its cost in its entirety. Imagine, in fact, that someone of considerable influence and power has deigned to use parts of this shipment in his own forces. If that sword shipment is good enough for the mighty Baron Revilgaz, surely it will serve our unnamed mercenary captain?"
Mercer flashed a predatory grin.
"Two swords. At first glance, identical except for a small brand etched into the metal: your brand. A brand that states you, the famous Baron Revilgaz, endorse this product and by your reputation alone ensure its high class. That brand makes all the difference between a pig in a poke and a solid investment. A quality product. Would that kind of confidence in the purchase not be worth, say, a ten percent increase in the price, split evenly between you and the manufacturer?"

- "An interesting perspective to say the least", he admitted. "And you think this idea could be applied to basically anything?"

"So long as it is mass-produced," Mercer nodded. "Weapons and armor, clothes and accessories, hardware — you name it.
"Of course, there is a risk that some lowlife would attempt to forge your brand, stamp it on his trash and sully your reputation. I should think you would be in every right to object with extreme prejudice," at those words, Mercer's smile became downright nasty, "And I am sure your sources of information would be sufficient to locate the perpetrator."

The goblin answered Mercer's grin.
- "Oh that shouldn't be a problem. But let us take one step back. Let's say I might be interested in taking part to this endevour. What would be your and your associates role in all this? And how much would you cost me?"
The Baron picked up a quill and made some scribling notes to a corner of a paper.

"I don' need ya ta kill 'em," the dwarf scoffed. "Just get me tha wed they be growin'."
"Ummmm," Jonas dithered, tapping the wand's crown in his open palm. "Anything else? Like...letters to deliver?"
"Boar's ribs," the dwarf said. "The trapper I had bringin' them were conscripted. Bring me some, I'll give ya a free sample."
"Well..."
"Bloody hell lad! What else ya want!"
"Well. You to give us free money would be nice."
The dwarf gave him a dull look from over her straw beard. "Yer...not too smart, are ya?"
Jonas rubbed the back of his head.

"Advisory, mostly. We provide investment project concepts, maybe with guidelines on its realization, depending on the amount of information about your businesses you would be willing to divulge - ah, but I am getting ahead of myself.
"For now, I propose this: we enjoy your hospitality and meet on a daily basis to lay out our ideas. When you decide to commit your funds and focus upon a single project somewhere down the line, we begin to design a realization plan, then stay by your side until the project is seen through. Then we could return to brainstorming, perhaps after updating our contract, or we could come to an understanding that time has come to part ways.
"In the short term, I trust that requesting accommodation within your premises, provisions and a modest monetary compensation would not be too unreasonable, yes? If this model suits you, perhaps we can schedule a meeting with someone from your legal team tomorrow to go over the formalities."
Mercer had no illusions about concealing themselves from the Baron while they were in his territory. Living within his immediate reach would spare him the resources of keeping tabs upon them, - and now he was bound to be wary - as well as, just maybe, give the Kirin Tor lapdogs a pause. Mercer hoped to remain well out of their reach, but if push came to shove, making themselves valuable to a goblin mogul could become their defense.
Of course, for that to work their value would have to outweigh whatever the magi could offer, and that depended on whether or not they were officially sanctioned by the Six to go on their witch hunt.

The Baron continued writing some notes.
- "Your proposition sounds reasonable, Mr Gryphonheart", the goblin said as it put the quill back on its place. "You seem like you might bring a breath of fresh air into my business. So my proposition is that we agree to one project for now, to test this concept of yours. And when we see the results, I decide if you are valuable to my organization. "
- "I agree to provide you with accommodation and meals and a wage of 5 gold each per week. For the duration of this project. You can stay in the inn down the road, I'll inform them of our arrangement. My secretary will provide you with this weeks pay in advance. This sound good to you, Mr Gryphonheart?"
The Baron extended his arm.
((disclaimer: i assume we are going with gold-silver-copper monetary system and therefore i have no idea what would a modest pay. Can edit if required))

The innkeeper stroked her straw beard (that thing must be itchy. How is it not more itchy? It was making Jonas itchy just looking at it. Scratch it. Scratch it damn you! I know you want to now scratch! Scratchit!). She shrugged. "A'right. Never be said I'd send ye out unnarmed huntin' boars. Whatcha think ya need? Got 'n old flintlock can lennd ye. Maybe a boar spear."

"It does, Baron, it does indeed," Alistair grinned. He rose from his chair, took off the glove from his right hand and shook the goblin's claw.
"Meeting you is an enlightening experience. I look forward to working with you for our mutual benefit. Where and when shall we meet your legal team tomorrow?"
