Hey guys-
So I've got a level 18 priest night elf right now. I'm looking to take it to 30-40 for the purpose of doing instances and group stuff, but with a focus NOT on DPS (read: buffing and healing). I guess I feel a priest that is designed to nuke is sort of not the point of a priest, but that's myself.
Anyway, when looking at the Disc and Holy trees, I was wondering what talents you guys thought we be more beneficial for party/instance stuff. Spirit of Redemption would be fun, but really, how much would you use it? Same with lightwell. I guess right now, it seems like points in Discipline would be of more use.... Imp Fortitude, Imp Shield, Divine Spirit. I guess for my purposes, I'm thinking that a focus in the Discipline tree would give enough mp to heal just fine, along with some other great buffs to help everybody survive better.
It seems like taking Discipline to the level 30 talent and then adding Healing Focus or Imp Renew would be of more help than a focus in Holy with a couple points in Discipline.
Anyway, your thoughts? Please don't suggest Shadow :P
This is the route I'd be heading:

Hey, thanks for the thoughts, some really good ones. Couple questions to help me better understand some of what your talking about.
First, Improved Renew- I guess I was under the impression that 15% at level 20 (random level for reference) will still be 15% more. Granted, it's not in the thousands of hitpoint range like when you get to higher levels, but if I'm only taking 20 dmg per hit, and renew is only healing X amount at level 20. I guess what I'm saying is that doesn't it scale with level? So wouldn't it be useful at the lowerlevels as well?
Next, Spirit Tap. While I understand it's value, I'm wondering if putting 5 pts in it is really an efficient use of points. I mean this in the sense that if I only need to stop to regen mp between every 3 mobs, wouldn't it make sense to only need a 60% regen rate? To regen mp when you don't need to (after every mob) seems like putting points into something that isn't doing anything for you on every other kill. Maybe things change in higher level, or maybe I'm just missing something.
Anyway, thanks for your thoughts; has helped me get thinking better.

Also-
I know people are going to say shadow in response to this, but if I'm looking at most useful level 30 and 40 talents in different trees, what does everyone think? I think that most people would agree that it makes the most sense to drive straight down one tree to get the level 40 talent (or respec at 40), but here's the layout of choices for the different trees:
Discipline-
30- Divine Spirit/Imp Divine Spirit
40- Power of Infusion
Holy-
30- Spirit of Redemption
40- Lightwell
Shadow-
30- Vampiric Embrace
40- Shadowform
It seems like the Holy tree just doesn't have a lot in the way of those talents being used very much. If you're going DPS then Shadow of course makes sense, but if you want to heal, it seems like you'd get more use out of the Disc talents.
Anyway, thanks again.

Hey, thanks for your thoughts about the holy tree in general. It's certainly a good point; I tend to obsess about certain talents too much.
Thanks!
