I used to have similar issues, it's more general to firefox and websites using live js/ajax/etc and can get even worse on XML live rendering. The main cause I found to this are specific memory hogs. Firebug for example leeches a LOT of memory, and doesn't really
like javascript
.
If you have any addon, try disabling them. Otherwise, try also watch which other websites opened. YouTube's "old" video player is not Firefox's best friend either, for example. Flash in general can get laggy if it contains a lot of external or big (10+mb) elements - if it locks up only on Wowhead without any other tab open, try the Flashblock addon. Stay away from Googledocs-like websites aswell, and nealy all Java content.
If it's not any of those above, I really don't know. I often have 50+ tabs open Wowhead only without any lockups - closest I can get to it is freezes with Firebug.

We've gotten a few reports of this lately and it seems to be coming from an ad banner, though we're still not sure which one. It looks like one of the flash banners has a memory leak that's causing Firefox to jam up if it's allowed to loop long enough. Can you send us a screenshot of the banners that are up when it happens, if you can?

I hate to bring back an old thread but I'm recently experiencing this problem as well. Seems that almost every time it happens, it's on pages with the City of Heroes : Going Rogue banner on it.

Wow, this IS an old thread. 2007? O.o
In any case, I'll mention it to the ad team and see if I can get it looked into. If you're concerned about it causing problems, there is a little "pull-out tab" button on the top right, near the search bar. Clicking that button will hide the ads on that page, to keep them from choking up your PC. It only works until the next page-load, but if you're trying to do something processor heavy (like playing WoW) on the other monitor, it sometimes helps as a workaround.
