Levelling woes, and roles in instances

Almost every one that played a warrior and done instances while levelling has been required to tank an instance regardless of specc. Almost all priests level as shadow, and are "forced" into healing as shadow.
No other classes are "forced" into a role they aint specced for. retlols only dps, shamans only dps, druids only dps (even as feral!).
When levelling through Outlands way back, i got invited to Blood Furnace. "Hi there, i am pala tank, wanna dps BF?", yes sure- look 3 more pallys in lfg!. Guess what, it ended up with me tanking, the prot paladin healing and 3 rets dpsing in the wrong order.
So, how come only warriors and priests have to do their offspecc roles, when other hybrids dont?

You just said that a prot paladin was healing. And then said that only warriors and priests have to do their off spec roles. Just a bit contradictory.
I also leveled a paladin with a ret tanking spec up until a prot spec had more than just passive avoidance and health increase. Along with healing instances on my shaman while elemental spec.
I don't get the point of this post as you contradicted yourself and it isn't true.

First of all no one is 'forced' to tank or heal, they are simply required to by the nature of who is available for which instance at what time for a full party to be assembled. If we want to bring philosophy into this (which I always do), that isn't anyone forcing anyone to do something, that is acquiescing to the metaphysically given.
Secondly, just because you have only been asked to do something you didn't plan on doing while leveling on one specific class does not mean that is the only class that happens to. I bet that prot paladin didn't spec prot for healing.
As someone's signature on these forums once said (I forget who though): the plural of anecdote is not data. I'm not sure how relevant in the context of this thread though, since you didn't even take the time to find more than one anecdote.

nobody "forces" you into anything, in TBC warriors were "forced" to tank, wel I have in over 2 years of raiding high end content yet to tank a 25-men.

I've never seen a cat dps instances from 10-70. Any druid that is feral is forced to tank as well.
Anyways, when it comes to 10-70 instances, there's very few people looking to group these days. So if you're forced to tank when you don't want to you have 2 options:
1.) Suck it up, and tank!
2.) Tell them no thanks, and leave the group. Be prepared to wait awhile though for enough people with the right classes seeking to form another group.
-None of the lower level instances require deep specs into say tanking or healing talent trees to be run.

If you don't want to tank, just say that you're not a tank. Stand your ground.

i dont mind tanking even when not specced for it when levelling, but why am i required to do it, and why is a priest required to heal, when a feral, dk or ret paladin never has to tank and a shaman, druid, paladin (especially paladin) never has to heal?

This thread is silly. You say only priests and warriors get asked to off-spec, then you give an example of the opposite.
Not to mention the fact that I see druids, shamans and pallies getting asked to off-spec more often than warriors. I think you just play warriors and priests, so you've only experienced that part of it. I think regardless of spec, most druids are asked to heal for Deadmines because there's a lack of low level healers most often.

I have no problem healing as a priest in shadow spec, you'll usually get a group a lot faster as a healer than you would as a dps.

I levelled from 10-60 as holy, and later on 60-70 aswell. (Paladin)
While i can understand that people want hybrids to perform things like tanking or healing seeing as there is a shortage on those roles (especially hile levelling).
Well back to my post now, im HOLY and at least 10% of all instances i ended up beeing asked to dps (as holy). It was fun really and my dps wasnt bad either (but i usually twink out my chars while levelling).
Well i just wanted to share that with yall.
Oh and most of the times i was asked to dps was because they had invited two healers and the other one wasnt all to happy about dpsing.
