Leveling prot at 30?

From what I hear, 30 is considered the earliest you should spec prot, but the stickies are out-of-date when it come to the build you should be using. I like the idea of being able to AoE grind, and I plan on doing a lot of instances as prot as well while leveling.
I was wondering if
my build
would be what I should be using once I ding 30.

My guide has been updated for 3.1 since about 12 hours after the european release.
But your build is about right. I'd skip imp HoJ for points in divinity (SoL/JoL heals) since you wanna AoE grind.

Ok, thanks. It didn't seem to hard to figure out the build that I should use. I put the points in HoJ b/c casters suck, and a 3s stun/silence being up 33% sooner seemed like a good thing. I also spent the gold to put Crusaider on my weapon, so the extra healing will be even better.

Yea it's not that hard to make a build that early since everything is either PvP or tanking talents ;p
Casters do suck but if you're gonna AoE grind you'll be avoiding them anyways and unless you're playing on a PvP server imp HoJ is a waste of talents (in my oppinion).

Off topic. I have 5 lvl 80s and 3 70s is there a hidden message in your signature ;p

Tip of the day: If youre going to grind casters, find a nice wall to hide behind.

No hidden message. I think I say it pretty strait forward. YOU are addicted to WoW. j/k

Yes...as they tend to cast through trees.

Hey,
I went protection spec soon as i got the talent points but a good thing to start with is putting points onto deflection in retri spec as it gives 5% up on parry which is defo needed.
Not for leveling as Prot. Your goal is to have things kill themselves on your shield spike and other reflective damage sources. Grabbing the Deflection talent doesn't help this, and slows the acquisition of key talents deep in the Protection tree.
Leveling talents =/= tanking talents
It entirely depends on you cause a lot of people dont like reckoning but i think there is'nt much point in putting points elsewere.
Case in point. Reckoning is a key talent for leveling with Prot AoE because of the increase in the number of S/J of Light procs it generates, increasing your survivability and the size of the pulls you can make. Its disadvantages vis-a-vis SotP and Conviction are irrelevant compared to that benefit at the lower levels.

Some of your choices make little sense to me Palarock.
you chose +5% parry over 10% 1H melee damage and the ever lovely holy shield?
Holy shield is an incredible AOE leveling skill, +30% block, a ton of extra damage and just as impotant used along side blessing on sanctory, means you will never run out of mana.
Dump the near worthless 5% parry and pick up some truely powerful talents.
Also Devine sacrifice for an AOE leveling build, maybe I'm missing the obvious?
Reckoning as Dunsinane mention is a very decent leveling talent.

Palarock is a nub, but not to worry, its not fatal irl. (usually)

sanctuary isn't nearly as good for low level AoEing as it used to be. You're going to level astoundingly slower that way than I did in 2.0

The difference was in 2.0, if you used consecrate, you'd be oom. BoSanc now lets you consecrate more, so I don't find the change to be a big deal.

I have to disagree. Even though sanctuary doesnt do any damage anymore it now gives you insane amounts of mana.
Which means you can keep up Cons all the time, use JoL/SoL (instead of wisdom) and consistently pull huge groups of mobs without ever stopping to catch your breath.
Killing mob by mob is slower now but leveling in general is faster.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, I was able to use consecration without going oom, i used SoW most of the time and switched to SoL when I was below 50% hp.

Back when I did my aoe grind (I'm doing one now at 33, but also my current 80 pally did hers back in 2.1-ish), I tended to maybe do 1 consecrate per group unless I was sealing and judging wisdom. It's not that I couldn't keep consecrating, but I found that if I kept the numbers of consecrates to a minimum, I would end up going faster because of less drinking time. I found that to be the case all the way up to Outland.
I mostly did the Dustwallow murlocs, then the Badlands earth elementals, then the Blasted Lands mines. If I was doing SoL, JoW, it just wasn't enough to keep up. If I reversed it, I'd always end up healing myself after the pull, and still not be full mana.

How often did you stop to drink?
How big where your pulls?
Sure i cant argue with you killing things faster but where you honestly able to use consecrate on CD and still be able to pull ~15 mobs? And then be able to repeat it without stopping to drink or eat between the fights?

What? Its way better than it used to be for any level. The amount it used to take off was almost never the full amount. All you have to do now is Light and you never die nor go even close to OOM.
Works either way, except now I get a nice flat 3% mitigation.

Thats bad son, thats bad. It takes but a few seconds to drink, but it takes far longer to do away with 8+ mobs without consecrate.
Honestly, if you're not using consecrate as a leveling prot you might as well go ret.
Also, SoW JoW > Light for back in the day (before sweet sweet BoS). I was at full mana nearly all the time due to it, and if I ever got into trouble Id switch auras and heal, then make the mana back up again. No need for light, just make sure consecrate was doing what it was suppost to.
But now we have reckoning and SoL and its pretty damn hard to die.
One actually doesnt even need their shield to AoE grind at higher levels.
But it will see a dip in DPS.

I would highly suggest Svirve's lvling forum thingy. I got from 20-49 in like a total of 5-13 hours of grinding.
Thats sort of a big gap. was it 5 or 13?
