so the other day when i was leveling my mage (level 71) i noticed that there was this warrior who was leveling as prot, i couldn't talk to her cos she was horde but it actualy seemed like she was doing realy well. so anyway i got a level 20 warrior and i was wondering if i should buy the level 1 onehanded sword on my alt (80 healadin) and go full out prot leveling. atm i got the 2hnd sword from WG and the shoulder and chest peices.
would apreciate your anser

Levelling as prot is fun. At first its a little sluggish, relying mostly on revenge to do damage, but once you get devastate its faster.
Dont make the mistake of thinking you should tank mobs to death though, being able to dish out huge damage is more important than being able to soak lots of damage, so learn to love trying to learn doing the most damage you can while in a specc not made for it.
Strength, crit, hit, expertise>stamina. Keep 2 sets of gear while you level (and at 80 even if you plan on only tanking) tank gear for instances, dps gear for regular mobs, and a mix of those for soloing elites.

I'll agree that the purpose of leveling Prot is not to tank the mobs to death, but it is fun to grab 10 different mobs and outlast all of them.
The first time I leveled a Priest, I leveled Disc with my buddies leveling a Prot Warrior and a Ret Pally. This changes the mechanic from solo leveling Prot, but treating the whole zone as you instance was the most fun I'd had while leveling in a while.
Prot's the way to go if you have a couple of reliable friends to level with, but it also offers a different experience for solo. My current Priest may not switch to Shadow at 50... >.>

I don't see how glyph of heroic strike would ever be worth it for levelling. Go for blocking instead.

My Prot Warrior
You can see I have the 1H Sword, Chest, Shoulder and 2x Trinkets heirlooms - which of course help a lot.
I can honestly say that I solod everything in my way up till now ( with the exception of Durn the Hungerrer ) with no real problems.
Downtime is a joke, I do plenty of dmg with revenge / shield slam / devastate / concussion blow, but I think AOEing down mobs is the best advantage of it.
Bottom line - Definitely recommend over leveling as DPS.

Prot is definitely a case where the more you play, the better you get. While I feel leveling as dps is faster (victory rush, big 2h), especially with all the haste on BoA items, prot is the way to go if you plan on tanking.
Warrior tanking has a pretty steep learning curve in general, but when you take skills such as intervene into play, it gets kinda tough to use it right.
Warriors are the class that benefits most from macros, due to different abilities that can only be used in certain stances. So, instead of getting them all at once at lv 80 and then trying to learn as you tank, you get them as you level so you have the experience and timing that is essential.
Depending on your playstyle, I suggest points in rend - parry - tactical mastery - prot talents if you charge a lot, respec when you devastate is in reach. If you dont mind the running (personally, i hate it), then go for straight prot.
Good luck, have fun, you wont die.
