"Math is pretty easy once you get the hang of it," Krista smiled. "But yeah, I've never had a problem with bears or sharktrees around here. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a sharktree."

Francis shivered slightly and then bent down to observe a small seedling growing in the ground. A green aura glowed faintly off of her finger tip ans she tapped the small seedling. The plant suddenly grew into a small flower.

The Prince nodded softly. He rolled his neck. "Hmm...I haven't...either. Never went under the canopy before. Maybe we should ask someone."
Character:
Nehemiahn Fume
Location:
The Everdark
Nehemiahn stepped into the center of the room. All around him were copper machines, made in facsimile of men though somewhat taller and much bulkier, with faceless masks like the visor of a knight, drilled with holes for whatever lay beneath to see with. They were broad chested where their boilers rolled, with prim shoulder pads over their joints marked with a badges of office A few pipes poked from their backs, where steam periodically escaped. Several of the golems were of taking an unmistakeable green turn, as their copper had corroded and tarnished. They had one hand each, with two jointed flat fingers, while the other ended in what appeared to be a multipurpose cannon of some sort.
The thief catcher strode into the room. "Coppers!" he shouted forcefully, the golems as one snapping to attention. "There is a thief somewhere loose in the Everdark! He is dressed in green clothes, a hood, and keeps to the shadows. consider him armed with dust and not afraid to use it. We are to capture him at once!"
One of the golems stepped forth. His face plate was unique, sporting a curled piece of metal resembling a mustache. The golem saluted smartly. "Righto sah! We'll catch the bloomin' varlet post haste! In three pieces or less!"
"What! No! No. Catch him alive, understand? We must question him."
"What? Oh! Yes. Right! We shall capture him, with at least as many parts as he needs to speak."
Fume thought this over. "...Yeah, alright."

"Just come on." Rosea sighed, the path becoming steeper as they continued along. Trees stretched higher, foliage becoming more dense around them. "We're almost out of the main kingdom. We shouldn't have to worry about guards then."

Rosea rolled her eyes. "The only time you have to worry about a bear is if you run into a bear." She stated. "So all we have to do is avoid them and we won't need to worry."

"Hm. Crafty how? Crafty clever? Crafty dangerous? Crafty you can make chairs out of them?" the Prince listed off, his curiosity mildly roused. But only just.

Francis glanced at the Prince, "Crafty clever, dangerous and sinister! The can move around and sometimes the dryads allow them to change form! I knew a friend who met a bear; both were found shredded to bits in the woods."

"Ah, a sharktree? Ahem, rather. Let me see..." There was a cough from somewhere up in the boughs of the trees, followed by the rumble of someone clearing their throat.
"
Though to be no longer of the sea,
still beware ye, of malefic sharktree.
I do not know where they now grow,
their lairs hidden, victims for the crow.
All I know, and harken well,
be ware of the teeth which harken dirge's bell
."
There was some soft clapping. " 'Caw, that was beautiful guv."
"Hm-hmm! Thank you Jeremy. I thought of it on the spot you know, though have to say the last line could have used some polish."
Angling his head slowly back, the Prince raised his brow at two plump ravens perched on a tree branch. Both were dressed in somewhat shabby clothes, though the older one dressed in greater style with a worn top hat, waistcoat and vest and in the midst of preening beneath his audience's accolades. The younger, who was still softly applauding with his wings, wore simply a brown sweater of some kind, with a deflated cap and scarf about the neck.
The Prince shook his head, looking back down. "Birds," was all he said, though in a helpless, affectionate tone.

As they drew further into the lowlands of the Nature Kingdom, the Prince looked about. In his current state, he felt a particular kinship with the growing depth of the forest's darkness. Higher on the mountain, where he had first crashed, the shards of sunlight which pierced the boughs had given the forest an ageless, perennial, and almost divine look. The sort of realm where gods slept on and the world existed in rollicking peace with itself.
Here however the Light which fell had a beaten, almost desperate glare. Their rays only seemed to throw the shadows into deeper contrasts. The well tended and spacious oaks of the uplands soon gave way to overgrown trunks and stones. Moss replaced the leaves and grass from before, crawling over rocks, and seeping around mushrooms. It was a more primal realm about him. An oppressive air and humid warmth like the breath of some great denizen which lurked deeper in the forest.
All this the Prince of wind felt acutely. He fairly wallowed in his own misery beneath such an atmosphere where dark things grow, the very land surging in unexpected creeks and hills. Some of these rises the Prince soon discovered were in fact merely massive tree roots which bulged out of the ground like cancerous growths, their forms hidden beneath suffocating moss, and strands of greenery hanging low like nooses. Such a place crept beneath the skin. The Prince swallowed heavily, feeling crowded amongst the ancient trunks, bearing down over him. He began petting Moonlight once more.

Queen Rosea
Lower Wilds
Rosea shivered in the darkness, continuing on despite the sudden change in scenery. "There should be a path... somewhere." She admitted, walking carefully along the fungal ground. This deep below the canopy, no sunlight could reach; grass and flowers couldn't grow in these conditions.
She paused shortly, glancing upwards. a soft blow glow drifted through the air; specks of floating lights moving along en masse. "There." The queen pointed, moving in the direction of the eerie lights.

Lower Wilds
Rosea continued along, her feet eventually stopping as they hit harder ground. Moss was more sparing along the remains of a long stone road of sorts. Above their heads, the flickering blue lights flowed in either direction along the path.
"Well..." Rosea commented, glancing in either direction.

Pausing with her, the Prince glanced either way. "Hmm...Hah. Well...Any suggestions?" he called, looking up at a branch overhead where the two ravens from before alighted, having taken to following them.
"Ah, yes. Which indeed," the elder mused, looking down either trail. Strutting across the tree branch, the black bird raised its beak towards the darkness overhead.
"
Betwixt these paths,
are shadows cast.
Wherefore shall they go?
East or West,
to be laid to rest,
Whoever does know?
"
"Oi wouldn't be takin' that un if I was you guv," the younger raven mentioned, cocking his head at the Eastern trail.
"Why?" the Prince ventured.
Puffing out his chest at the import of his news, sending the scarf rising slightly, the young raven nodded solemnly. "Oi've 'eard a bears bein' down that way. 'nd bears be bloomin' crazy."
At that, the Prince mustered up the energy to give a brief 'I told you so' look at the Queen. Then his head fell again in depression.
