Is blacksmithing worthwhile for shaman?

This will be the first time I have actually leveled up a profession, and rather than getting two gathering professions, I'd like to go with a gathering and a crafting. I was debating between either blacksmithing or engineering. I initially chose blacksmithing, but I'd like some opinions before I get too far.
Is it worth getting as a shaman? I will rarely if ever raid, only occasionally getting into a 10 man most likely. So, the majority of my items will come from pvping and luck during 5 mans. Am I able to get some decent weapons and or armor for shaman via blacksmithing or is it just not worth it? As I alluded to before, I will be mostly pvping on this character, would engineering be more beneficial?

If PvP is one of your main goals, then I'd say Engineering is the better bet. Blacksmithing has some good uses, you'll probably be able to make some good weapons along the way, the Titansteel Bonecrusher is a very good weapon for a fresh 80, and the extra sockets are definitely a very solid perk, but Engineering has a lot of extremely fun little gadgets, most of which mainly shine in PvP.
If you're main goal is to craft your own equipment, you'll get the most mileage out of Leatherworking, which should supply you with some solid leather and mail gear, as well as giving you easy access to the fantastic leg armor and the LW-only fur linings. You won't make much money off it (or Skinning, the least profitable but easiest to farm gathering profession), but it definitely has the best gear for a shammy. Then again, if you won't be raiding much, you won't have access to the higher end recipes, so you'll probably just be using LW gear while leveling and for starter 80 gear then only using it to enchant later upgrades (but this is true of pretty much all the professions).

Everyone seems to say engineering is good times for PvP. However, I have been under the impression that it is a bank breaker. With mining as my other skill, how much would I be expected to fork over in order to level and make good items?
edit: in the direction this is going, maybe i should move this to the professions forum?

To those of you who think gathering professions net you more income: spend more time learning how to effectively play the AH and selling craftable items. While it may seem that you're making more money doing these professions, you're also spending far more time earning it than someone who would buy your materials, craft it into some usable epic or consumable, and sell it for a profit.
While it may take you an hour in-game to make a 500G profit off of your work with stacks of materials, it'd take someone like me with Alchemy/JC only 15-minutes to craft up some gems/flasks and throw them up on the AH for the same amount of profit. Do what you like, but if you don't like farming or spending hours doing said farming I really couldn't recommend gathering professions.

To the OP, there are a limited number of craftables from Blacksmithing to make it worth it, but the sockets (both gloves and belt) are very useful for every class in the game. Between the two, if you are mostly PVPing, I do highly recommend Engineering. You get plenty of utility items (ie super-speed, parachute, etc.), plus it works as a secondary gathering method if you really want it so you can farm motes as well. Just don't expect to make truckloads of cash on this one (although you may be able to profit off of the epic ammo coming out in 3.3).
