While I wholly support this idea, you really should have posted this in the
Site Feedback
forum instead.
That said, I think this is something that should be seriously considered.

My brother and I are actually red/green colorblind myself, so I definitely feel your pain. I've never had any trouble with the colors as they are on the site, though.
The difficulty here is that the captcha codes we use are there to prevent bots and spammers from posting comments or forum posts. Reducing it to a high contrast black and white image makes it a lot easier for bots to get past our spam protection.
I wonder if this would be a good time to switch to reCAPTCHA. I really like their service, but I don't know how difficult to integrate it would be.
Are there any visual difficulties you have with the site other than the captcha codes?

Second the motion to switch to reCAPTCHA. If you're going to make thousands of people type words into a little box every day, might as well get some use out of it :P

Are you talking about the dropdown menus like on the front page, or the ones in the filters?

The visual style of those dropdowns is determined by your browser and your operating system, not by the website styling. I'm afraid that one's up to you. =/

I think he's referring to the live search results... Wouldn't those be controlled by the following in global.css?
.live-search {
color:#FFD100;
font-size:12px;
white-space:nowrap;
}
