Icehowl is killing us

I was doing ToC25 last night, partly PuG with some of my guildies, and we can't get past Icehowl. Aside from people unable to run away from him during the charge and causing Icehowl to enrage, healers were having trouble keeping the tanks alive. It seemed like they were going from 100% to 0% in less than a second. As MT, I was even dying instantly for what seemed like no reason. All the healers were geared well and had no trouble during The Impaler or Acid/Dread keeping the tanks alive. Has anyone else had their tanks one-shot by Icehowl, or did we stumble upon a bug?

If icehowl enrages due to ramming someone, your probably gonna get 1 shotted unless you hit a panic button asap. Have a hunter ready with tranq shot for if he does enrage to remove it. If your just dying from melee swings, have your healers spread out so they aren't all iced at the same time. It's a much easier phase to heal then the first 2; usually 1-2 of our healers just start dpsing during icehowl.

Moving on Icehowl is easier then moving on Heigan.
Failing on it, is completely unacceptable.

Make sure people are moving away from the wall a little as they strafe out of the way. I've seen people running into pillars so many times...

I can't see what tank gear you have, but seeing as you haven't even cleared the keepers in ulduar I think that may be a part of the problem too.
But yeah, failing to run away from Icehowl (on normal!) is just bad.

Looks like hes not asking about the trample enrage here guys. Ferocious Butt
seems to be your problem It stunns the tank so for 2.5 seconds your taking straight hits with no chance to avoid.
If your tanks can't take the extra damage during this time then have the tanks taunt off of each other as soon as the debuff pops up. Atremini posted the attack a few posts above. The crossed horns icon is what the tanks should look for and taunt when seen.
And remember as a tank, a absolutely wonderful tool is "Target of Target" :)

The Ferocious butt comment was the first thing I thought of.
Avoidance is really nice, but what people fail to realize is all of the incoming damage that cannot be avoided. There are alot of stuns, fears, bleeds, magic damage etc that can't be avoided. Almost every boss has it (maybe two? don't have the ability to do that).
Since this is the case, I hate to say it, but health pool and armor is a major deal. Armor goes up with better gear, so not much you can do there, but, remember that you need to be able to take a huge hit from the boss, without blocking or avoiding the damage, without dying.
Isn't it funny how blizz thinks the incoming damage is too spikey, but alot of the blame for that are stunts like this? lol

Healers should be able to heal a properly geared tank through it.

Just took a look at your armory. I assume you're tanking when you do ToC25.
First of all.. Screw socket bonuses. Gem for pure stamina, Gems like
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40169
is a complete waste of a gem slot. In case where the socket bonus is actually great, like in your head. Then you should take stam + hit/dodge/exp.
But you've got to change a fair amount of your gems to +30stamina, simply because stamina is king. You can also easily get armor on back and health on chest, because you're 14 defense above crit immunity cap.

may also be an idea.

.....How hard is it to hold Q or E and read the big "OMFG ICEHOWL IS TARGETTING YOU, RUN MOTHER#$%^ER RUN!" text above your head.
Last time I pugged Icehowl, that wasn't the problem. The problem was lazy/ignorant bastards who moved from their position... right into his path. Like, they were in a perfectly safe place, but instead of just waiting there for Icehowl to hit the wall, they'd pick the worse possible direction to run and Icehowl would trample them. Additional problems were people who seemed to play chicken with Icehowl - they'd be in his path, then dither there by choosing to go left, then right, then left, then right, then get trampled because they didn't pick just one direction to go.
Apparently having the wherewithall to recognize where he's going and avoid that little 5% of the wall is too god dam much to ask.
It only takes one healer to keep a tank up during Icehowl, but they need more than a couple marbles in their brain as well. Ferocious Butt is on a timer, like Impale, and often comes right after or right before a melee swing, so there's a fair amount of burst right there. The trick is that he also tends to frost breath right after Ferocious Butt as well, so unless all the healers stacked together and were frozen, there should be plenty of time to heal the tank from Ferocious Butt. Druids with Swiftmend have the easiest method of healing the tank up after the Butt, but really it only takes a single flash heal (of any kind) to counteract it

From what i have seen Ice howl is an idiot check.
Tanks = Hp check
Healers = can you stay awake to heal this part, and do all the healers stack up in one spot becuae that = death
DPS = can you avoid the crashes
looking at your gear you can definately ot, possiably mt but as said before stam= king
Expertise on hands why .... you already are over the soft cap, if you need threat armsan gives avoidcance and threat
Cloak enchant of 250 armor i believe gives better eh
again your gems are somewhat off, most glarring is the haste/stam no warrior likes haste,

for the people who know the haste DPS chest from faction champions...the Ilv 258 just went to a tank for offspec.

The first time I ran this one with my guild, I messed up. I knew what I needed to do, but instead of running out of his path, I ran right into it.
It wasn't because I was ignorant or lazy. It was because I was alert and noticed him getting ready to charge me. I pressed (and held) my right button(to move my character and camera), changed direction away from him, but due to my camera angle, didn't notice that my character hadn't turned(after all, he was stunned). So when my stun wore off, my character didn't run the way the camera was facing, but right into that big mfker. You can call that l2play if you like, but my guess would be that there are a lot of other players out there that does not know this, either.
Next time, try to explain this and don't move too close to the wall, and I'm sure it'll go without a hitch. At least, it did for me.
