Damn I hit that Wall hard lol. Um DK's w/o tanking abilities... wtf? Then they are purely dps and I don't see that happening for all the time they put into developing them

I personally, (out of the choices, like DK better), like the paladin tanks more. Consecration, devo aura, avengers shield, holy shield, hand of reckoning, etc. is, in my opinion, easier to tank with. But i also believe warriors are excellent tanks as well. I would try out both and see which you like better when you are starting out, then go for that one. But like i said earlier i would also go for DK tanks, those are fun too, (depending on what spec they are, my favorite is frost).

Warrior
Pros:
Interrupts on short CDs
Able to break fear
More oh shi--! buttons
-10% damage taken (defensive stance)
Holds single target aggro extremely well
Cons:
A lot of downtime (levelling and soloing wise)
Less group buffs
Can only tank or DPS
Least AoE threat capabilities out of all four tanking classes
Needs more time to gain aggro from a "cold start"
Needs more attention paid to, in order to tank successfully
Paladin
Pros:
Passive Guardian Spirit
Better AoE threat, more group buffs
Less time needed from a "cold start"
Less downtime while levelling
More
easily
healed
Can tank, DPS, and heal
Better TPS
-12% damage taken
Cons:
Less oh shi--! buttons
Unable to break fear
Interrupts are on long CDs
That's the pros and cons in condensed form. If there are any others, inform me.
(Edit: I apologize for my general nubbishness when it comes to pally tanking)

Both classes are
very
healable as well. I know most of our healers (myself included) would rather heal a paladin or warrior tank over a DK or druid. Their damage intake is just very steady, with very little 'spiking' to contend with, which reduces the stress on a healer because he can more or less anticipate every heal with accuracy.
How do druids have more spiky damage intake? They're the only class that is automatically uncrittable when specced correctly..... The only time when a druid would take more damage than a warrior is when fighting mobs that use magic.

paladins have a 20 sec cd interrupt if they are paladin tanks(hammer of justice), we also have a silencer named Avenger shield if you specced for it.
So paladins tanks really do have 2 stun effects:) THe hammer kicks spell and lock it for 3 sec:)

-10% ? wasn't that buffed to only 5% some patches ago?
Oops. Wrote it wrong. Meant -10% damage taken. -.-

= 9% flat mitigation for paladins. So paladins are only 1% behind in terms of flat mitigation, ignoring everything else. AS is on a 30 second CD, as has been mentioned. If you take all of the talents to improve it, hammer is on a 20 second CD, and horde paladins get Arcane Torrent as well.

I am a driud tank. From what I have seen the type of tank doesnt matter. All that matters is how talented the tank is at tanking. I have been given complements on my tanking ability in most of the raids i have gone on. I have seen some awefull tanks tanking with me from each class. I would say most pally tanks dont tank very well. I am not sure if the rotation they use is difficult or not but most warrior tanks I have grouped with are a lot better than most pally tanks. I sit around 50k health with 44% dodge in most raids (without greatness or mongoose procs) and most healers say I am one of the least spiky tanks they have healed. Druid tanks rotation is pretty simple and if macroed properly is only 3 buttons. This is not counting taunts, barkskin, frenzied regen , or survival instincts. If you dont want to concider being a druid tank I would have to suggest being a warrior tank. Again just based on past experiences.

It could be the druids I run with, I'm open to that possibility. Even for a warrior or paladin stacking dodge over anything else, they still have block and parry hanging around on their gear somewhere, which adds an edge to mitigation that
the druids I have run with don't seem to have
. Should have made that clearer first time around, sorry.
Druids are in no way as spiky as DK's (and a well geared DK isn't exactly horrible to heal), but they're still in for some big damage intake if the RNG decides to throw their 40% dodge out the window for three swings - they have an uber health pool for a reason, right?.
For the record, the tanks I heal regularly are all at more or less similar gear levels, and there's honestly not much to choose between them healing-wise.
Also, in your warrior pros and cons you forgot:
Pro:
superb battlefield mobility
And
A lot of downtime (levelling and soloing wise)
just isn't true. There is downtime, yes, but it's not much. Top up with bandages as you go along, if you're levelling cooking keep eating the stuff you cook to refresh food buffs, and that's it. Prot certainly has very little downtime these days because mobs can't beat through the shield, and there's very very few mobs while questing that can stand a full arms rotation.
Fury's still a bit squishy, but with some decent gear you can deal with groups at a time without much difficulty. You'll get good at the intimidating shout+bandage+health pot combo though >.>

Shield of the templar
add that on top of those.

Pallys are supposed to be getting a TPS nerf, but they have always had the best snap AOE threat of any tank.
*cough* Frost DK Tank with HB > Pally in snap aggro by far

QFT. HB might just be the strongest immediate-threat AoE attack available to any tank class in the game,
and
you get your most important disease up on everything around you, all in one GCD.
As an aside: Cons is terrible for snap AoE threat. Mobs can run right through it and you'll get about 800 threat on them in total. AS is on a 30 second CD and HotR, which does give fantastic AoE threat, requires all the mobs to already be in melee range.
