Here, let me put it simply.
Play the spec you
enjoy
.
Have fun with your class, atm SV is top dps, so if you wanna spec that for the dps go ahead, but me, I
love
marksman.
Played MM since I was a inch high hunter (lvl 10)
Dosent matter how many people QQ at me in game I will not spec out. I did Naxx10, there was a SV hunter I was 1.3% behind him in dps. For me, the slight amount of dps sacrificed for my fun is worth it. (yes I have speced SV, I found it boring)
But to each their own, I like MM in PvP also, burst damage/good mana
BM has BW, unable to be feared, CC'd, stunned, ect. Pet does increased damage and most people attack the hunter, leaving your pet to do some damage. (haven't done much arena yet, so that's speaking from a BG's standpoint)
Survival has increased stam, better trapping.
Also, if you are good at playing/raiding BM I'd stay with it, cause its no use being a survival hunter if your no good at it. If your decent at all the specs then this bit wont be a problem.
All in all I say play the spec you enjoy.
Edit: spelling

Sorry, but it really depends on your group. If you raid casual, then yes, that 1% may not matter. But if your boss is 1% away from dying after a wipe, and the dps was not doing the best that they could have, it detracts from the raid.
Look, im not dissing you for going marksman. It was buffed this patch, and it is looking pretty nice. But some guilds only accept hunters who squeeze every single decimal of dps out of their sprite, and when maxing out dps, spec is the first thing that comes to mind. If you're not familiar with a top dps spec, learn it. As a hunter for around 2 years, ive been jumping specs damn near every mini patch, trying to max out those numbers. Ive been forced to adapt to every change to max dps for my guild.
Back to the subject at hand, hes speaking in a pvp standpoint. In BGs, spec dont really matter, compositions are as random as it gets (not including premades), so just spec whatever you're comfortable with. As for arena, if you are not a paladin or death knight, get the fsck out of arena.

Oh come on, it's just a game not a profession... "forced to adapt" in a game?

Isn't the extra 10% damage he gives to EVERYBODY as a MM worth more than an extra 1% to 1 person? Any guild should be able to see that, and if they don't then I would suggest you leave

MM trueshot aura is not a 10 % damage buff to everybody :P

ok sorry--EVERYBODY except casters?
Edited: I see what you mean, yes it is not a 10% damage buff, it is a 10% AP power buff. I worded it badly the first time cause I was annoyed.
That said, isn't 10% more AP to any other hunters (including SV), DKs, ret pallys, dps warriors, feral druids, and rogues worth more than 1% dps for one person?

I just duel spec'd SV and BM. I ENJOY playing BM its fun for me and easy when your solo. But when I'm doing an instance or raid poof, grab my wolf throw on my SV duds and roll baby. Problem solved. I do wish they would make BM's raid viable again the exotics add a bit of flair, don't you think?
