I don't understand deadly throw?

I don't understand the usefulness of deadly throw? If I've got dots on something why would I run away voluntarily and use them for deadly throw? And if I do have to run away, I'd rather leave my dots up and use them when I charge back in? But I play a PVE combat swords rogue almost exclusively, so unless I am about to die, I don't generally run away. I've checked around but haven't been able to find any tips on how best to use deadly throw, and it seems pretty useless in PVE.
Is deadly throw used as an opener in PVP maybe? I definitely lack experience in PVP (play in a PVE realm, don't play in the arena, and while BGs are fun I am basically rubbish at them), but it seems like rogues have much better openers? Unless maybe deadly throw is buffed with 2x throwing specialization so it has silence? Then maybe you could lead with it before charging a caster in PVP? That's the only use I can think of...
Would anyone mind sharing tips on how to get the most out of deadly throw?

It's intended to be a gap-closer. Granted, it has seen much more use back in the pre-deadly brew days, but it's still useful if a caster slips from your grip and you have some combo points on him. It has absolutely no use in pve.

We're still the same lovable bastards in PvP!
Not at all, we are now squishy and easily kited, as every other class has obtained multitudes more gap closers, snares, and defensive cds when the latest rogue move to save our lives was cloak when BC came out. Were easily killed, have no way to heal, and rely completely on 10 seconds of stuns to kill anyone in pvp.

Well, I dunno about any of the "good" PvP rogues, but I still use deadly throw. The great thing about it is that it's a daze, so it cannot be dispelled. Many times I use it to slow a player i am trying to get away from to get out of combat and restealth. I use it many times in arena too, especially against druids, since I always seem to be running from them. lol

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet. But back in my glory days in the burning crusade. Deadly Throw had the daze effect and an interruption. So it was awesome in pvp, but then it was nerfed.
Ex scenario.
1. You go up against a warlock.
2. He fears you.
3. You got some lag.
4. You use your pvp-trinket.
5. You see the warlock cast something against you.
6. You throw.
7. Spell is interrupted.
8. ?
9. Profit.
