I voted Atheist. To be more specific, I reject the idea of a god or a higher power or anything of the sort.
I use the same reasoning for my religious beliefs as when I look at a tree and wonder if it will talk to me, or whether or not the sky is made of cotton candy.
When I look at what's happening in places where children go hungry or are needlessly slaughtered, I can't even comprehend a being that would invent such torment. Then we must praise him or be sent to an eternity of damnation in hell? If there is a god, I see him as cruel and narcissistic.
If a man would follow, today, the teachings of the Old Testament, he would be a criminal. If he would follow strictly the teachings of the New, he would be insane.
Robert Ingersoll
- (My great, great grandfather)
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed. Results like these do not belong on the résumé of a Supreme Being.

It is, yes, because I didn't want to write a novel on here. I am speaking of the text I've read from the christian bible.

Meh it's a small thing but it really grinds me, since my religion doesn't believe that, but we're always lumped in with people who do.

Yeah I can understand that. Everyone interprets the bible their own way.
Unrelated: One thing that really bugs me, is when people use religion as a reason for morality. I have 1000 times the morality of every religious murderer in jail, yet I don't believe in god at all.
The prerequisites for faith in my fellow man do not include religion. I "Do unto others as I would have them do unto me"
by my own right
, not because I need to be
told to do so
by a higher power. I think that's a more powerful morality.

I couldn't agree more. Religion is a crutch and nothing more. You shouldn't need the promise of paradise in the after-life in order to persuade you not to be a prick while you're living.

Meh. Most religions are deeper than that.

Perhaps the more intellectual and introspective interpretations of religions, but you can't deny that a worrying amount of Americans (Christians in particular) have scary religious beliefs. Pat Robertson and his kind did not become celebrities in a vacuum.

Deep South Americans in general have scary beliefs.

According to Gallup, less than 40 percent of Americans believe in evolution.
It's not just the Deep South I'm worried about.

Something like half of Americans think Obama is Muslim.
