From a technical perspective, seen from the user's side, wowhead is one of the best websites i have ever seen.
Doing something like this requires elaborate skills not only in HTML and CSS (CSS being much more than just changing how text looks), but also in JavaScript/AJAX, and in the case of something like wowhead, database design.
You can get there given the time, but you'll need to have a plan so the project won't end in a trainwreck of a hack job.

From fire and brimstone. What did you think silly, actual worldly items?

Well Nimubain, when a WoW and a Head love each other very much, and they want to show that love to each other...
Love is not a necessary part now that alcohol is so easily obtainable.

One time, Thottbot tried to upload Saurfang to their database. The resulting explosion created Wowhead as a byproduct of his awesomeness.

Once upon a time, there was a planet called Azeroth.
The planets life was threatened. Two beings of that planet decided to send their child away to a distant planet, to escape the destruction. So send him away they did, in an escape pod.
The planet that child landed on was earth. It landed on a farm, somewhere in the countryside of America. The farm belonged to a couple names the Kents. They decided to keep the child and call him Clark, but had to change it due to copyright infringements.
The child grew up and discovered he had strange powers, he could memorise vast amounts of information as long as it somehow related to his homeworld. He used his powers to get rich and sold his idea to the owner of Blizzard. To hide his true identity, for fear of being used to sell gold, he adopted the pseudonym "Wowhead".
The only known weakness of this superhero is the forum known as randomness. When a topic gets too serious, he loses all of his powers.
Note: Some say his real name is Broxigar.
Long live Broxigar 'Wowhead' Kent!
