As a BM hunter, my job is to sic my pet on a caster/healer to keep them from casting. A pet with 0.99 attack speed plus claw/gore spam usually ruins a caster's day. Plus if they CC the pet, just pop beastial wrath, and you can almost hear the frustrated grunt from the other person.
So as a BM hunter your job in the arena is to lets youre Beast Mastery speced boar run in whilst his pet hunter fires from as far away as possible? :p
I'm gonna get flamed for that ;) but I just HAD to say it :p
On a serious note ANY pet that has a high dps is quite a good choice for PvP as a hunter, any pet that can learn Dash/Dive/Charge/Warp is also a good choice if you want to close up the gap and start your pet dpsing a little quicker.

i think we can all agree that in BG's hunters should stay at range as much as possible. To add to that:
-choosing the right classes to attack. pallys are a waste of time lol. squishies like rougues, locks, and mages are better targets.
-very important, and what many hunters do not do enuff, is kick back after a fight and wait for your cooldowns to reset. dont rush into another fight. nothing sucks more that having none of your special abilities available.
besides- whats the rush??
