I can only advocate a tool like WWS if you want to have a really precise idea of what happens in your raids.
(and even then, it's a large work to analyse and to get to the right conclusions/find what or who should be changed)
As explained by previous posters, healing is a complicated task with lots of different targets/roles, so numbers alone won't really help.

Reviewing healing/dps meters is important. Its not important to top the meters every time and have a *!@#ing contest, but its a quick way to gauge if someone's doing something wrong since you can check what spells/abilities they are using very easily. Large discrepancies between top healer/dps and bottom healer/dps can sometimes mean the difference between success and failure, especially for hard modes/heroic raid content. You just can't carry under-performing people for these types of things. And the easiest way to find out is by reviewing meters. As they say on GI Joe, "Knowledge is half the battle"

dude talk about getting an old topic from below a huge pile of dust...
back when PoM healing was accounted to the person it was on... changed since then...
and meters are a tool to see who s slacking maybe compared to other healers of same class /gear level. also seeing who takes most damage/heals can be very handy for healers assignments etc.
and a means to see what overall spell are being used by a better healer for example.
and maybe i m a nub but i still like competing for the first place, keeps me on edge during the fight.
although i know its not the most important thing. and all those ppl declaring they dont care even a little where they come on the meters are just lying :-) everyone has their pride and honour.
but all that comes after getting the job done ...
