How much do you budget for an alt?

Recently i've been leveling a new character, up to level 42 right now and it's turning out pretty good with heirloom gear. A guildie who is a huge alt lover (18 level 80's so far...) mentioned in passing that she's still trying to get epic flying on all her alts, this worried me a bit and so i've sent off 6500g &
Tome of Cold Weather Flight
as a budget to help me along with leveling when i'm high enough.
Boiling down to the question; how much gold do you send your alts to work with and how much gold would you consider reasonable for an alt to have? As mentioned above, I go with the all expenses paid option.

I only buy epic flight on alts with which I intend to play enough that they'd make that money back via questing or professions.
When I'm leveling a new character I always try to make sure they have a gathering profession or two and use them constantly. This will usually more than pay for their abilities and normal speed mount needs. The only budget I need really is buying (or in my case, making) them a set of 20 slot bags.

quite a bit to get it to 80.
My priest dinged 80 and is a disenchanter(375 skil :p), so I make nice money with that.
I level alt to support my main mainly.

I have a banker alt who i send all my gold to. If i need gold to train something on one of my alts ill send enough gold plus a little more just to cover repairs/food. Any loot i might want to put up on the AH i send to my banker just to keep things simple.

I send gold only when needed, although I do spend some every so often for good perks. Usually, I'll throw my alts a few gold in the beginning so they'll have enough for training and repairs. When they hit the riding levels, if they don't have the gold, I'll move some to them, and if there's a really good item that's cheap on the AH (you never know unless you check), I'll grab it.
This.

I only send gold for epic mount. The rest is to him to get. I find it that if I'm going to play the alt I would rather gear him as I did my main, its more fun that way :D Epic mount speed makes a huge difference in questing so its worth it.

why do I need to level an alt? I already have every character.
Which means... what?
I know! It means you are the very type of person this thread is directed at! Thanks for contributing! >_<

I used to send around 100g to new alts. That was plenty for a mount when the time came, along with all of the necessities and a random AH purchase here and there in the mean time. Of course that was before the drop in mount level and prices.
These days I send bags and
maybe
a couple of gold if I see something extra shiny in the AH or go on a tradeskill leveling spree.

For me, currently working on a horde alt on the same server as my alliance mains, I am in the process of saving up more than the amount that the character would need reasonably while lvling. This is more my anal need to have the gold sitting around for incase^&*!. It helps that i pull 1500/day at the low end so it doesn't feel like much for me to get a good 10k+ gold sent over to an alt, whether it be horde or alliance. That is of course to cover food, repairs(limited to do heirlooms), and of course all mount training/mounts needed for the appropriate lvls, and Dualspec(since the alts are usually multirole like the horde alt I'm working on thats Shaman). Course that's just how I run my alts. I want them to be at their best otherwise why call it an alt. Then it's just a new main your lvling to pass some time. Course if your talking a twink then it's different. Only gotta gear to that bracket and such. Oh and gotta remember that the complete lack of groups these days may cause you to pay for runs through places for w/e reason you may find. /endcomment
