Ok so I have 3200ap and weapon 146dps.Not very good but not as bad as it could be, ive spent quite a while working on gear.
So I dueled this ret paladin, he had 27khp and good gear. I kited him well and froze, scatter, deterrence and did everything i should of. But I couldnt even get his hp below 90% because of sacred shield and his heals =s. Fired quite a few chimera shots and arcane plus aimed. Looking through combat log it shielded him for 3k every 6 seconds.
Assuming the battle lasts seconds thats around 15k of passive extra hp to get through giving them 39k hp. Then all the extra heals they do.
At the moment I just switched to marksman and found it better in bgs and a more fun spec.
I wouldnt say im a bad player either, in bgs I often get in top 5 kills. Yes i know its not all about kills in bgs...
WHy can't I even get him below 90% hp =s.

I can kite them for a while, but the 15% increased movement speed really feels like more like 50% faster.
I don't know why but they catch up with everything incredibly fast. I think anyone playing a ret, as I have myself knows what I mean about the speed increases feeling like more than 15%.
The main issue is once a ret gets to you your dead in 4 or 5 seconds. However I have to kite this guy a good 30-60 seconds to kill him =s.

Ret pallies will eventually catch up to a hunter trying to kite them, except if the hunter tries to use aspect of cheetah/pack.. which if a hunter uses that.. he deserves to die a horrible death.
You have double the range and twice the speed....
IF used correctly
he will not catch you. The trick is getting to MAX RANGE while he is cc'd. Just stay 30+ yards away, if he is slowed/trapped/webbed/dazed you can just run. If he freedoms then cheetah till its over.
And that's just presuming we're in an open grounds battle.. if there is LoS about..
.. then the hunter shoots a freezing arrow at the entrance and moves on to another target while the pally hides like a girl :)
Thats the problem, most of the time you have limited space, theres either, arena edge, a hill... a pond, duel limit. Even in bgs and world pvp theres often not enough space.
As for tranquilising shot, it only removes 1 thing, chance for it to remove the right thing when you need it is really slight =s plus i think they might have 30% dispel protection.
Its not as easy as it sounds in theory vs good pally.

I always love reading posts about various forms of pali being tough to kill. Especially when someone, either an elitist, or a pali, writes a 7 plus step guide on how to kill one, generally, as is the case here, glossing over the reality of how crunchy this fight is, even if you do everything perfectly. The reality is that when you compare the steps that nearly every spec and class has to follow when they attempt to kill a pali, and compare it to the universal technique that a ret pali follows when fighting ANY spec of class...it gets pretty obvious pretty fast how goofy the situation is.
The step by step guide above advises you to use an ability with an 8 second cool down 3 times...meaning even if you lead with it, were talking 16 seconds of purging...assuming it isnt resisted, which of course means the hunter now has to gem and enchant specifically for this scenario...yeah...that sounds fair.
step by step guide for ret pali pvp
1. see player you want to die
2. cast repentance and run at them like a bulldog (they will probably THINK you hit them with hammer of justice, since your running at them and they cant move...yeah...i know...but its the reality of the situation, when they see a pali they just start cursing anyway)
3. when they trinket and hit you with a cc or slowing ability, use applicable get out of jail free card hof/bubble/protection etc...
4. hammer of wtf stun when close (now that trinket is burned)
5. roll face on keyboard (because calling pali dps "seal twisting" is the same as my waiter calling himself a "plate of food to customer liason specialist")
6. /spit or /taunt dead player that you clearly outskilled...
counting seeing them, and taunting them, that is a nearly fool proof 6 step process, that i have seen used against every class in the game.
The worst part is, essentially the same technique that a ret pali would use leveling while fighting an elite, will probably still work 90% of the time. They hit hard enough, and have plenty of save me buttons.
And yes, i hate the class altogether, i wont argue i am biased. Can you argue that if paladins were outright not allowed to flag for pvp, that pvp wouldnt magically be easier to balance?

So why dont the top mm hunter stack arm pen in arena?
MM is good because it has some utility and has plenty of on the move shots.
Chimera ignores armor, so does arcane, and wild quiver. In pvp you wont get the same bonus from arm pen unless your standing still allot.
