Shaman
: Now the shaman is my favorite kind of healer yes people say they are the best party healers because of chain heal, which is true but chain heal is a mana hog and if you don't have good mp5 then don't even think about it. their heals are stong enough to keep up a tank with no problem.. well I didn't have one at least. your heals are very stron in comparison to the other healers so while a paladin is throwing a million heals at the tank you can fill up his hp in half the amount of cast. So a shaman would be you best bet for a boss that hits you tank hard and you need strong heals to bring him up quickly. but i would probably try to dedicate your shaman to spamming chain heal to the party (the down side to chain heal is that.. it only heals targets near each other). In pvp shaman are real good like the other healers but in my opinions the more fun healers to pvp with.
Stats:
Shaman, Mana per 5 seconds, Intellect, Spell power
Gist:
Shaman - mana bank
My armory, for reference
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but as a Shaman, I have 0 mana efficiency issues, especially compared to other healers. Perhaps I may experience issues once I start trying toGc, but in Toc10 and Toc25, I do just fine.
Mp5 is completely unnecessary, there is more than enough regen via Wis/Mana spring, Replenishment, Water Shield, and Imp. Water Shield procs. Intellect is weak.
I gem for haste. Shaman casts are much too slow.
I'm really not sure what you mean by "Mana bank" though.

I See, a LOTTA good post :) Especially about Holy Palys...
Bottom line is on that subject... Holy Palys are made and will stay as the best available tank healer with out change of glyphs or main stats, etc.
In the new content they are coming out with more Haste/Mp5 armor for them besides the perfectly tuned Tier10 (Pants turned white) Making Holy Palys heal faster than other classes, (more hps) on single targets and beacon of light being able to reach 60 yards Makes it so the holy paly can always concentrate on that single target (mainly the tank unless u got a oddball fight) by healing your self or some one else while u are more that 40 yards from that single target.
In terms of who puts out more hps always depends on the fight... Twin valks for example i cannot beat a good Shammi, Priest, and/or druid simply cus they are healing 3 people at a time with low hp, 5 people at a time, or rolling hots on everyone! I can only heal a certain value per click.. while other classes are made to heal by the tick
And yes to the overheals, it is almost inpossible for a holy paly not to over heal more than most healers.... other wise the other healers arent doing ther job or that holy paly isnt healing at all. Beacon of Light and then Judgement of Light are the 2 biggest factors but with your flash of lights you are not always going to get a perfect fit in heal after someone takes damage... it is usually more rather than less thus over healing to better keep the dps alive and not have them die from a massive hit.

TH Pal=>Disc=>Holy=>Sham=>Dru
RH Dru=>Holy=>Sham=>Pal=>Disc
IMHO
nope.
TH Pal=>Disc/Dru=>Sham
RH Dru=>Holy=>Sham=>Disc
Varies from fight to fight. Spikes you'll want a Disc/Pal or somesuch, Constant you'll want Druid/Sham, Holy is generalised.

Resto Shammy
:
Shamans seem to have two weaknesses, in that their mana pool is more limited than other classes - Shamans need to focus on haste, and typically only pack enough regen to sustain normal healing - Burst healing is a big drain on a Shammy.
Secondly, because they have
You didn't finish. Please continue :D. I <3 resto shammies.

Why the hell are people putting Disc Priests at the bottom of the list in raid healing? I know you guys probably stare at your recount for "healing meters", but you should try running meters on WoL, or something equivalent, that shows
absorbs
.
Honestly, the list is more along the lines of this:
Tank Healing: Paladin. Possibly Disc Priest if you're running really really bad raid comp.
Raid Healing: Resto Druid = Holy Priest = Disc Priest = Resto Shaman. Fight dependent.

Hi,
I'm a Main Disc healer too, i used RecountGuessedAbsorb in order to get an idea of my equivalent healing.
I give arround 5k to 6k equivalent hps and i can go up to 11K as RH during the fight against the Twin Val'kyr in Trial of the Crusader.
As we are using heal with short cast time like
Penance
,
Flash heal
, and other
PoM
and obviously
PW: Shield
, movement do not scare me at all. Cooldown are also reduced by glyphs and talents.
Mana issues are balanced by
Shadowfiend
, the mana restored by PW:S when it breaks and some trinkets and racial traits like
Arcane Torrent
.
I usualy work with Druids on rh and PalHeal on TH. In normal fight, particularly on th, they ask me to leave them a little work =)
That my experience, I do not know other healer types.
As thehuntard said, our work is not to heal but to prevent damage.
Hoping my comment could help

As the healing officer of a 9/12 HM ICC25 guild (Not amazing, but it does require a bit of understanding right?), it really ergs me how many people are underestimating the power of a disc priest. In ICC, right now, it goes like this.
Tank healing: Holy paladin > Resto shaman > Resto Druid = Disc Priest > Holy priest
Raid healing: Resto druid > Disc priest > Resto shaman = Holy Priest > Holy paladin
A disc priests bubbles can account for an incredible amount of raid damage reduction.
