I never got too into Healbot. Could never like it. This may partly be because whenever I'd use it, I'd crash miserably in Mount Hyjal way back when.
I've always used X-Perl + Clique. Effectively the same as Grid+Clique but I like a lot of the additional functionality it offers as well.
But yea, your GM is an idiot.

The problem with healbot is that it has the word 'bot' in it, so ignorant people thing its some automated healing addon that only bad healers use.
From a healers perspective its a matter of prefference, I have healbot on my priest and think its a great addon. When raids fail, people are quick to shout out "not enough heals!"

Sounds like your GM is just sorely misinformed. The most common complaint I've ever heard from people who've actually USED healbot is that it makes healing
too
easy.

Healbot does not overheal. This is because Healbot does not heal. Healbot is a frame that allows for one click healing, cleansing, and related options.
Your GM fails epicly.

Anyone who is upset over certain addons you happen to use has his/her priorities skewed. You take people based on whether they can successfully do their job throughout a raid. I'd take 24 people without DBM and omen through Ulduar Heroic if I knew they'd all do fine without those two addons, let alone what specific addons the healers chose to use.

The reason why I use healbot (I am a tank), is so that I can keep I close eye on my entire raid while only using up a small portion of my screen. Also, on fights like Gluth, it allows me to pop a fast heal on whoever is tanking during Decimate (if I am not).

Nothing wrong with healbot and your GM needs to rethink his priorities, i would do as i have done to many a person who questioned my healing and tell them to reroll a healer and then tell me how the &*!@ to do my job. I personally don't use it because at the rate of my guild progression i already feel useless enough (not that i have a problem with the rate been with this guild for 4 years so you know). Anywho moral of the story is if it works for you then go for it :)
PS. tell your gm i think he is a retarded prick

I don't enjoy healbot very much at all. I tried it in Naxx 25 once... we wiped 7 times on Sapphiron. The moment I turned it off and started manually healing we won without anyone dying. Personally I think its just to confusing to be useful, but that's just me. I prefer user-friendly addons that are straight-forward with how they work... not addons that make you want to gouge your own eyes out when you so much as look at the complicated interface. The only semi-useful raid addon I have is Deadly Boss Mods, so maybe I'm missing out on something but the simpler, the better imo.
Your comments perfectly illustrate what we're all saying and why the OP's GM is a complete tool. Its not about the addon, its about what the healer is comfortable using and best able to do his job. Some people love healbot (myself included), some prefer grid + clique and some prefer standard target and press a key.
Any one who judges a healer based on their addon or claims you should use addon X because addon Y is fail, is just ignorant.

I'm an elemental shaman but for 10-mans i have clique and x-perl (JUST THE RAID UI cuz the rest #$%^es me off) ready in event of fights like loatheb or just stuff where i can pop off a quick heal to be helpful (sapph air phase)
also, when i DO go out healing I use it just cuz it makes life easy. I don't have a problem with people using healbot, clique, x-perl, grid, or just normally clicking it. I have a problem with the tank dying, and that's either his gear/intelligence to blame, that or the healer's, but it's all about the numbers. If the numbers show up and the fight goes well (at least from a healing perspective) who cares how it happened?
just because I want to go to target doesn't mean i walk the 2 miles, so why should healers have to do extran thinking? cides I play horde, most of the people i raid with are high...
