Now that we have Phasing in the game, this could actually work pretty well. You could have your guildhall at the same place as every other guild.
I can totally see everyone in the guild paying ungodly sums of gold just to pimp our guild hall with awesome things, like a bar with all possible types of alcohol from all around Azeroth, dancing nude female draenei, disco ball, a gnomish nuclear bomb, a satellite, a garden full of garden gnomes, gothic architecture everywhere, our very own DPS training dummy which would resemble our guildmaster, an underground dungeon with a guild-exclusive raid boss who would drop new epic guildhouse upgrades... gosh i want it all, and i want it now!

You know that all could be just a set of, lets say, thirty variables, right? I mean, from a server file point of view. I bet guild banks would take more space, you have to have the ID of every item stored in the file. And argumenting with "for about 11.5 million players" is pretty silly, because that can be used against just about EVERY single suggestion.
"haha new 5-man instance in WoW? dude you know how hard it must be to implement a new instance for 11.5 million players? no way its gonna happen"

Knowing the amount of money Blizzard gets every month, a lot of things look like not-a-problem, yet we haven't seen them happen (*cough*Wingtergrasp*cough*). Apparently there is some problem.
As much as I like the idea, I wouldn't want to see it happen anytime soon. I remember the days of Ulduar's launch, and the insane server lag and crashes for the first week when every
level 80 character (1), who was well geared (2) and had the time free (3)
was trying to raid. Those are 3 filters that reduced the number of people entering Ulduar at the same time.
Now imagine those filters gone. Any player in the world, having access to their Guild Hall. Honestly, I'd dread entering mine, because of the lag spike I'd get.

Why do people imagine how much lag it would cause, instead of how awesome it would be :< There could be some amusing brainstorming here about pimping the guildhall, but its gonna be killed by lag talk. :(

Because the idea has been suggested about a hojillion times, and many people will be inclined to either skip it entirely, or drop by to say how impossible/discussed it is. Develop an advanced and detailed idea, and I will comment thoroughly and critically.

How bout making some system of leveled guilds (like in Lineage), like for example guild who cleared all end-game content without puging anyone, or even dying during whole raid would get such hall....
Cause only hardcore guilds would utilize such a guild hall?
I'd say you are wasting your time if you are developing something to cater to a small % of the gaming population.
1) Cannot limit the TYPE of player
2) Why only high end raid/pve?
3) Just charge 50k gold or something silly to get the guild the ability to even have their own guild hall. this will make it so only guilds who truly work together and want to utilize the "coolness" of having a guild hall can.
4) Limit it to 25 players from the guild at a time for every 50k they spend. Also, boot idle players who turn AFK out of the instance(after a prompt giving them to option to stay)
comments?
EDIT: 50k might be too low, I'm just throwing numbers out. Blizzard has the data to find a good number to keep this a "obtainable" but not "easy" feature to enhance your guild. 50k gold isn't that hard to get for a giant guild, but for one like mine, around 25 character(not players mind you), 50k would take us some time, but in the end be worth it.

Why not, pay for it? With rent? Blizzard does seem to favor gold sinks at the moment. How about another - that way, only a few of the wealthier guilds on each server would have access ^_~

Sort of along these lines, from a recent Tom Chilton interview...
"
Q: Is there a feature in another MMO that you admire and would like to see in WoW?
A: Sure! Right now, for example, we don't have a housing system. Other MMOs have it and it's a system that we've talked about since before the launch of the original WoW. We've talked about housing and how we'd do it and how it might work for at least five years.
Q: Is it something you're actively working on?
A: No, we're not working on right now, but it's incredibly complex to do right and we're not sure yet if it's going to be the right thing for WoW in the long run. It has major implications for the game itself and again I wouldn't go out of my way and say never but it's not on the immediately of things to do."
Personally I'd love to see some sort of player housing and/or guild headquarters put into WoW, and apparently some Blizzard designers would as well...
