I dont know about forsaken lore, but i think it has something to do with fact that forsaken could have been priest in life.
Warlocks are mages who are corrupted and leave studying arcane and start learning shadow magig.
...
I dont think draenai abandons light totally when they are shamans.
None of this explains why gnomes *can't* be priests. It makes just as much sense as the reasons you listed above for the other races. (Later realized that Night Elves aren't playable as mages, so that whole part of my argument is invalid.)

Trolls shouldn't be playable as priests as well. I know Trolls have priests, but they aren't the same as the priests we have in game.
Talent trees for Priests are in fact inspired by the different religions on Azeroth.
Discipline
is the Night Elf tree, it focuses on worship of Elune and on magic that is beneficial but does not come from the Holy Light.
Holy
is the Human, Draenei and Dwarf tree, it focuses on worship of the Holy Light. This might also be the Blood Elf tree since there are high elf priests in human campaigns in W3.
Shadow
is the Forsaken tree, it focuses on worship of the Forgotten Shadow.
This leaves out other priest races such as Trolls. They can be priests, but their beliefs do not follow any of in-game priest trees. Trolls are animal god worshippers.
Priests are available to the Forsaken (and Trolls) because they just couldn't create a different priest class for every race, not because the Forsaken used to be human. In lore, there are no "Holy specced" Forsaken priests. They only worship the Forgotten Shadow. There are no "Discipline specced" Human priests. They only worship the Holy Light. But since they needed a priest class and 3 talent trees in it, they mixed together all the beliefs and made the class available to all priesty races.

Never thought of it like that. Hmm.
Also, on the topic of troll priests, I sorta wished Blizz had made hero classes from the beginning, i.e. the Gnome Tinkerer, the Orc Blademaster, etc., with the Troll Shadow Hunter in the list (I like the idea of changing what spells you can cast according to what Loa Aspect you're using atm, sort of like warrior stances).

I never said it was wrong for Trolls to be priests. Just that Troll religion does not fit in the in-game version of the Priest class, there is no Animal God talent tree in it.
Also, 5% is not really big, and we did have tanks with 5% health increase (Taurens). Do you find it normal to have tanks with 5% increased health, but not healers with 5% increased mana?

Gnomes simply can't be priests or healers period for balancing issues..
i mean seriously, healer with 5% more mana from racial buffs?
But having a tauren tank with 5% more health is okay?

Yeah, cause 5% Base Health is game breaking.

Yeah, cause 5% Base Health is game breaking.
I meant that 5% extra health
isn't
game breaking, actually, so the other poster's comment about 5% mana being OP wasn't valid.

- by the light ,dwarf, why do you keep those gnomes around in Ironforge?
- well they have 100 ideas. 99 of them consist of fire, explosion and general destructions?
- i am horrified, why do you really not kick them out?
- because the 1 idea of all the other horrible one is a winner. You see that portal over here in tinker town, it saved us alot of money from transfering sales to the humans in Stormwind.
P.S. Also they kinda woke us up with all explosion near gnomeregan. Someone really gotta look after them.
I am still clinging on the theory gnomes are really an off spring by the burning legion and it is why they do not use the light. My evidence is gnomeregan instance, that is really a work of a evil force. I still got nightmares from that place. Something the horde should be glad they did not have to experience.

It's not 5% more mana, it's 5% intellect (unless this was changed), and I'm pretty sure it's base intellect. Correct me if I'm wrong.
