Bloodbath is a bit too extreme for my tastes.

It sounds too extreme for me, lol. The heaviest band I'll listen to is Mastodon, and they're not even all that heavy, lol.

The heaviest band I listen to is Lamb of God :)
And Opeth and November's Doom as well. But they're heavy in a different way.
Anyways, listen to the other bands/songs I posted! :p

Oh, come on, you guys are wimps. You need some
Inhume

Waco Jesus
!

Can't listen to any of that stuff at the library :(
Is any of it as heavy as Job For a Cowboy or The Acacia Strain? Because I like both of those. It sounds too extreme for me, lol. The heaviest band I'll listen to is Mastodon, and they're not even all that heavy, lol.
Remission is extremely heavy. Leviathan and Blood Mountain also have their moments. Crack the Skye is the only album that isn't heavy.

I don't listen to much heavy metal. TBH, HammerFall is the heaviest I get. I listen to a lot of metal, but almost all of it is speed/power/symphonic.
Also: Need more suggestions for metal bands, that aren't too heavy. I might check out Tool, but Metallica is still meh.

Tool's great. IMO. I suggest
Lateralus
and
H.
, in particular.
My personal favorite metal band will always be Iron Maiden (with songs like
Aces High
or
The Evil That Men Do
being my favorites), followed closely by Judas Priest (with the song
Screaming For Vengeance
being one of their best early ones, and
Painkiller
being, IMO, the greatest metal song ever made). To round out the top 3 we have Megadeth (with my personal recommendations from them being
My Last Words
and
Hangar 18
).

Ty. My dad has some Judas Priest tapes that he recorded awhile ago, I think I'll check them out.

Judas Priest are great. Their best albums are Screaming for Vengeance and British Steel, IMO.

Hmm I'll try and help you out there (but most bands will probably be named already in this topic) :-) Not too heavy you say? Hmm ... no promises :-/
Can't decide on just 1 song from a few, meh.
Stratovarius
Sonata Arctica:
Don't Say A Word
and one of my favourite slows,
Replica
Angra:
Temple of Hate
and
Acid Rain
Ayreon:
Day 11: Love
(which is actually more of a project by a musical genius with vocalists from various other bands)
Star One (
The Eye of Ra
, which is based on Stargate) and Stream of Passion (
Passion
) (both are other projects from the same genius that does Ayreon)
Tiamat:
Until the Hellhounds Sleep Again
Symphony X:
Domination
Dream Theater (of course!) :
Spirit Carries On
and one of their awesome instrumental songs
Erotomania
Porcupine Tree:
Lightbulb Sun
. Technically not metal, but Deadwing (
Open Car
) and Fear of a Blank Planet (containing the epic song
Anesthetize
) are pretty heavy albums for them.
Pain of Salvation:
Scarsick
and
Big Machine
(which shows how amazing the singer's vocal range is!)
King's X:
Pray
Rhapsody:
Steelgods of the Apocalypse
(up until Power of the Dragonflame, although I might try them again after the renaming)
Blind Guardian:
Mirror Mirror
Therion:
The Rise of Sodom and Gomorra
,
Blood of Kingu
and
Mitternachtslöwe
)
Savatage, which has the Jon Oliva period (
Gutter Ballet
) and the Zak Stevens (
Edge of Thorns
) period
Coheed and Cambria:
World of Lines
Annihilator:
Maximum Satan
(This song has a wicked intro if you have surround sound and put it really loud. I played just the intro 3 times after hearing it for the first time xD)
Iced Earth:
Pure Evil
,
Travel in Stygian
and
Wolf
Sabaton:
Thundergods
If you're into gothic metal, there's also Epica, After Forever, Edenbridge, Leaves' Eyes, Tristania, ... and
IMHO
Kamelot is pretty much gothic metal as well, just with a male vocalist.
I had a vid for each band linked, but I screwed up with copy paste. So I'll add them in again later >.<

You forgot the wonder that is MANOWAR! I also recommend Iced Earth if power metal is your thing.

O right, forgot to mention Iced Earth. It's in the list I have on my profile though. Added now. Manowar is not really my thing though oddly enough. Maybe it's the bodybuilders on the cover that put me off xD
I would also list Sabaton, but that might not be for you :)

Stratovarius
Porcupine Tree
The best :)
If you're into gothic metal, there's also Epica, After Forever, Edenbridge, Leaves' Eyes, Tristania, ...
Everyone and their dog seems to mix up gothic metal and symphonic metal - of those Tristania is the only one that's really gothic metal (and that only applies to their first 2 1/2 albums), and besides, Leaves' Eyes are about as generic as female fronted metal gets, along with lacking pretty much every trademark of gothic metal. For the most part gothic metal tends to be very sad sounding, akin to doom metal but not quite as heavy or slow. (does Edenbridge even have any sad sounding songs?)
If you're looking for gothic metal that's not as heavy... Tristania, early Theatre of Tragedy, early The Gathering and I
guess
Lake of Tears... come to think of it there aren't that many since gothic metal tends to be (relatively) heavy. If you're more daring you can dig deeper into the heavier gothic artists like Trail of Tears, Tiamat, Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride etc.
Although if you're more into the aforementioned symphonic metal there are some worth checking out like Autumn, Elis and Within Temptation.

Within Temptation is WAY too mainstream to my liking.
And yeah I guess everyone mixes gothic metal and symphonic metal once a female vocalist steps in. I didn't really think straight, just went for bands with female voices. My own definition of gothic metal was having a female voice that "sings like an angel", while you also have a male voice that is very dark, demonic maybe, often with grunting vocals.
I also noticed Paradise Lost is missing from my list :p I'm not too fond of My Dying Bride. By the time I'm finished listening to one of their albums, I'm ready to commit suicide xD

Meh. I like depressing music... which is probably why I listen to so much death doom and funeral doom. :P
Within Temptation is WAY too mainstream to my liking.
I'm with ya there, from The Silent Force onwards they do sound like another clone of the Nightwish/Epica bandwagon hoppers, but
Enter
and
The Dance
are good imo.

Anyone have thoughts on this year's Grammys?
Useless, just like they are every year.

Also, Powerglove, the remix kings, have a new album out. Enjoy a few samples here.
Saturday Morning Cartoon X-Men theme from the 90's.
Gotta Catch Them All!
The Simpsons
Transformers
Batman TAS theme
This is Hallowe'en
(the Mason version is still better though)

Ty for the list LookOut. I'll definitely have to check them out (thinking mainly Sonata Arctica and Iced Earth atm. I have a theme going).

I've been working on a super guide to music the last couple months on and off, and I almost have the Metal section done - maybe another week of work on it. I quite literally tried to include every artist to ever write any sort of metal. Ever.
