Huuuh. Just watched "Rules of Attraction". Borrowed my sister's DVDs out of boredom.
Two interesting things about it. First, one of the tracks is the exact one used in WoW, I think either in Un'goro, Silithus or Tanaris.
The other thing is that there's a sort of implied DUI death at the end and the director/writer killed someone while DUI. After finding that out on the wiki, I've assigned him to the pit shared with Victor Salva..

So I've just seen
Avengers Assemble
, and I thought I might as well give a mini-review type of thing. Overall, it was really, really good. Considering I hated Iron Man in his films and thought Captain America: the First Avenger absolutely sucked, I really liked the pair of them in this film. Not to the point where I am part of the... quite large fleet of Tony/Steve shippers, but still. They impressed me. I particularly liked the interactions between
LARGE HAM
Thor and snarky Iron Man. The Shakespeare analogy was appreciated.
However, I had a major problem with the faux action girl known as Black Widow. Her introduction includes beating up three gangsters who are interrogating and intimidating her, while strapped to a chair, and then as the film progresses she's relegated to making tea for Hawkeye (I wish I was joking) and doing a terrible job of co-piloting. Her main weapons are two pathetic mini guns and considering that her first scene established her as a badass, she failed to deliver for the rest of the film. I think she managed to kill 3 mooks in the entire third act. I think pouting, $%^& and ass are her major talents.
Overall, it was great, but I'd expected a better female character (especially one overshadowed by awesome that includes a demi-god, a super strong and super durable ball of rage, the most elite soldier ever made, an archer that puts Legolas to shame and a guy who uses a nigh-indestructible suit) from someone like Joss Whedon. Loki was kind of funny, but he wasn't badass enough. I wanted to see him do a bit more curb-stomping before being out-smarted (which would have been the best thing for Black Widow to do and make her
actually useful
, but I've made myself clear on my stance about her).

It's the law of female movie characters based on Comic Books: It doesn't matter if in the book itself, said character is able to beat and kill anything that moves, once they are in the movie, any and all awesomeness is ruined: Prime examples; Sif from the Thor movie, all of the female X-Men, Catwoman(Berry's not Pifer), Elektra.....you know, hell with it, other then Hit Girl, when it comes to live action, the female comic characters just get stuck with the distress ball and idiot ball...../sigh

To be fair, Sif wasn't given much of a chance to showcase her power. In the fight at Jotenheim, she was kicking just as much ass as the rest of the cast, and she did an okay job against the Destroyer, which was then curb-stomped by Thor. But come on, he's Thor.
And Storm in
Last Stand
took a level in badass, which I appreciated. Other than that, your point's kind of true. My main point is that Joss Whedon should have, could have, and
has
done a lot better than that.

And Sif has beaten Thor to a pulp before in the comics....
Storm shouldn't have had to take a level in Bad Ass: She led the X-Men as a non-powered leader for a few years when Scott went off to play house with the Jean Gray clone Madeline. Storm has always been up there as one of the most powerful mutants on the planet because of what she can do...but because of the actress, we didn't get to see it at all.....and it's even worse because all of the newest Marvel Movies are based off the Ultimate Universe, which had the street rat Storm even more possibly bad ass then the original comics(I mean she threatened to push Ball Lightning into the face of a piercing/tattoo artist who had a face full of metal).
Yes, I really hate the X-Men live action movies lol.
Agree though; unless Wheadon was worried people would start screaming 'River/Buffy' clone if he used the real Romanov.....

Well, I'm watching
Nostalgia Critic's review of Quest for Camelot
and it is PISSING ME OFF! He hates the movie, and all of his critisizms about it are well-based! Damn it! The bell thing, the Prayer song scene, the weird hands that attack the gryphon. EVERYTHING HE SAYS MAKES SENSE! But this movie is one of my most beloved childhood memories, and still have the end of it somewhere on Casset Tape. CASSET TAPE!
Anyone else remember Quest for Camelot? What did you think of it?

Saw both Cabin in the Woods and The Three Stooges yesterday. Both were great, but the better of the two was Cabin in the woods.
Now, they didn't maim the Stooges - for which I am greatful - but the movie itself was not as good as I would have liked to see. The first part was great - and the fact they seperated it into three tv show-like sections like the old shows ammused my greatly - but after that it became less Stooge-driven insanity and more story-driven generic comedy with Stooge antics. If you remember the Stooges from the past, go see it. If you don't; find some old tapes with them on it and watch those to get the full stooge experience.
The Cabin in the Woods, however, was really well done. The story was great and very, very gripping. The concept was brilliant, in my opinion, and the actors and writers pulled it off, seemlessly. I don't want to spoil anything, but just let me say that there were many, MANY more ways the opening horrors of it could have gone. I also loved the ending - and you aren't going to get even a fragment of a spoiler out of me this time. And the characters, you gotta hand it to the government-warry stoner. Out of all five of the victims, he was all around the most memorable character - aside from, many the villains themselves. I HIGHLY suggest you go see it, or at the least rent it when it comes out on video - although seeing it on the big screen is much more impressive.

Saw The Raven the other night, it was ok, not bad, not great. Honestly Im usually kind of luke warm about John Cusack. Saw some pretty good trailers though, The Chernobyl Diaries looks good, so does Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.

The Chernobyl one does look very good. As for Seeking a Friend...
The asteroid misses completely.

Went to teh midnight showing of the Avengers last night. great *!@#ing movie, really lived up to my expectations, I loved the action, it had me laughing quite a lot, all the characters really meshed well together.
Only two things I had a problem with were:
1) Ed Norton wasnt here to play bruce Banner. It would have been awesome to have him there, he is bar none the greatest actor on the planet (RDJ was probably threatened), but the new guy playing Banner did well do Im not gonna harp on it.
2) The big battle scene where they were all effortlessly pwning hundreds of aliens fealt a little contrived. I mean Thor, Hulk, and Iron Man I get. Even Cap. But Hawkeye and BW should have had more trouble fodderizing an army of aliens.
Despite these two minor blips I still think the movie was fantastic. Plus at the end
MUTHA!@#$IN THANOS

Natasha's main weapons in that battle are two like, super tiny pistols. Although I have to admit, it would be interesting to have an archery competition between Legolas, Hawkeye and Katniss.

Because the Chitauri seemed to be physically superior to humans, and one would think that the aliens would be sending
their
elite soldiers as the first few through the portal. And like Patty said BWs weapons were two tiny ass Derringer-ish guns. Plus at one point she was killing a bunch of them melee style and I keot wondering why one didnt just shoot her from a distance.
Not that I didnt like the ending battle scene, it was just something that poped into my head, I mean the comic versions of people like BW and Hawkeye and Frank Castle and such can react to bullets and do basically superhuman feats, but the movies are more watered down and realistic.

Hawkeye would win heh; he's almost on par with Bullseye when it comes to hitting things...also, this is the Ultimate Hawkeye, who murdered a group that was torturing him by ripping off his fingernails and slicing them into their throats...and this was after he took down two squads of Shield Hero Killers with forks and knifes.

Technicaally movie Hawkeye isnt the same as Ultimate Hawkeye, best to simply go by movie feats rather than taking from the comics, since they dont technically share continuity. Hawkeye would still win though, he almost hit Loki in the eye with his arrow from a long ass distance away while Loki was on that alien speeder.

Ryja, all of the new movies are based on the Ultimate universe...
