The Horde version was better... >_>
I can't really
comment on that because... well... I haven't done the Horde version.
But I will anyway. Because there's absolutely NO way (no way, at all) the Horde version can be better than the Alliance version for me. at all. for reasons. <3
I can say without a hint of faction bias that the Horde version is INFINITELY superior.
Lets break this down shall we?PROBLEMS
First off, the SI:7 Report has quite the plot hole, as you mentioned, why on earth would they be surprised to see an orc there when they wiped out 2 bases full of orcs? The Scout Report, has no such plot hole.
Second of all, the point of the quest. What exactly do we gain on the SI:7 report? absolutely nothing. The squad is sent out to gather intelligence about anduin and the one thing they manage to gain is info that the hozen allied with the horde. That's it. Other than that, all of the quests are just a waste of time as Anduin is nowhere to be seen, and Rell gets badly wounded.
Third: No comedy. Asides from one quip from Sully about Amber shooting his first raccoon friend, absolutely nothing memorable happens on the SI:7 report. BIG contrast with the Scout's report which thanks to Riko has some of the most hilarious moments in the entire expansion.
Fourth: The squad itself. I Dunno but the alliance squad is very bland, with absolutely no personality, we don't get to interact with them, to work closely with them, to get to know them better. Nope, we barely even speak to them. I was hoping to get to know Mishka, Rell, Amber, and the rest of the team, but many of them only show up once and are never seen again.Little Lu
has less than 10 lines, none of them memorable or important, he is just there to serve as the "Local Guy". But has absolutely no personality, and adds nothing to the plot, or the team. HUUUUUUUUUUGE contrast to Riko the hozen, undeniably THE BEST and most memorable of all the horde characters on the jade forest.Amber
: Zero personality, we know she's a sniper, and......... that's about it. We don't talk to her, and she doesn't talk to us.Mishka
has a grand total of 1 quest on the jade forest, after that, we see her ONCE when she bandages up Taylor and never see her again till 1 quest in kunlai, and a few dailies on Krasarang.Sully
is the one member of the team that has a personality, and the one where we actually work close with. He is the only likable character of the team.Rell
: Zero personality. He's just a commander who follows orders, gets wounded, and we never see him again.
Now compare that to the Scout's Warparty:Sargent Gorrok
is the one member of the team that is like the alliance: No personality. he just has a generic "ME KILL ALLIANCE, FOR GARROSH!" vibe like ohhh so many garrosh bootlickers. Nothing important about him, we only do 1 quest with him, and never see him again after we rescue him from the Jade witch.Shademaster Kyrin
: Awesome character. Has this disturbing fascination with poisons and from the dialog, it seems she enjoys cannibalism. All in all, an interesting character that we work with closely on the jade forest, and on Krasarang (Where she even reveals a forsaken can survive decapitation as long as the head is reattached to the body)Shokia
: Sniper, unlike amber though, she does speaks to us, and we get to know her, and work with her on plenty of cases. Harbors a grudge against the hozen, but warms up to them eventually.Riko
: good god, I could say so many things about this crazy monkey and they would NEVER do enough justice to how awesome he is. He is a hozen, dumb as a rock, but actually quite smart compared to other hozen. He can speak common better than other hozen, and even adopted a non-hozen name (His name is Riko, rather than the "name-name" other hozen take, such as Tak-Tak, or Meek-Meek, or Ukka-Ukka).
he is also quite flirty, braggy, and thinks of himself as a ladiesman, even though he is a coward, and a whimp.
Better yet, despite his cowardice, he still braves great dangers for the people he cares about. And has AWESOME quotes.
Ok, so we analized the characters. What about the plot of both questlines?
here's a brief summary of both:SI:7 Report:
Before we start this questchain, Rell, Sully, and Little Lu are sent by Taylor to search for clues regarding Anduin, we don't see them for a while, and when we do get back, we see Sully, Little Lu, and Amber, along with a very wounded Rell. The quests mostly serve to inform us just what happened, and how did Rell got wounded like that (which we never find out BTW)
For the full dialog of the quest-chain: http://www.wowpedia.org/Quest:SI:7_Report:_Lost_in_the_WoodsQuest 1
: Rell, Sully, and Little Lu find a crashed alliance plane, see that Amber is in there, supposedly injured (though strangely, this is ignored on the other quests where she seems just fine). While they bring her out of there, Rell fends off waves of hozen. That's it. No memorable dialog, no important revelations, nada.Quest 2
: Rell, Amber, Sully, and Little Lu go to the serpent statue, Amber takes an elevated position, Little Lu is sent off to gather wood, Rell stays....... there for some reason...... alone, even though there was no reason for him to do so, I mean, they didn't set camp or anything, there were no tents, and Amber was perching on a high cliff, so there really was ABSOLUTELY NONE reasons for him to stay there alone other than to create cheap drama later on. So, Rell stays there alone, and Sully is sent to scout the Shrines.
This is the only memorable quest in the SI:7 Report, as sully has equiped a laser sight that he uses to tag mobs for Amber to snipe from her perch. He goes to the north side, finds nothing of anduin. Goes south, doesn't find anduin but he finds a raccoon, befriends him, names him gizmo....... and quickly its shot by amber (Causing a hilarious reaction by sully), sully immediately befriends yet another raccoon, and goes back to Rell, who got jumped by dozens of hozen, and got beaten to a pulp (See why you're not supposed to stay alone for no damned reason?)
All in all, this quest made no sense, we find nothing of interest on it, and rell stays behind for no reason too. Plus Amber was perched quite close to him, why didn't she heard the screaming or fighting from the ambush? why didn't Rell communicated with either of his team (he has a radio on the intro quest, so does the rest of the team)Quest 3
: This one is even worse. For no reason AT ALL, they stumble upon the Jade Witch's hut, which is ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE JADE FOREST. WAAAAAAAAAY far from the serpent shrine, what the hell were they doing there? were they following a trail? what trail? they found nothing at the srhine and they had a wounded man, woundn't it make more sense to double back and cut your losses? Anyways, they go to the hut, for some weird reason they are surprised to see an orc-turned-to-jade in the garden (didn't they killed them by the dozens on 2 bases? what the hell) and when they meet the jade witch, she tries to turn sully into jade, but hits his raccoon.Quest 4
: The Sniping mission. Amber, Sully, Little Lu, and Rell, set up camp near Grookin' Hill (the hozen village) sully sneaks into the village, while Amber shoots as many hozen as she can to clear the way. Here, Sully says something that (like the rest of this questchain) makes no sense. As he is planting the explosives, he plants the first and says "this is for beating up Amber" then plants the second and says "this is for beating up Rell" and plants the third and goes "AND THIS IS FOR GIZMO AND SOCKS YE BASTARDS!".................... errrr...........what? What do the hozen have to do with that? Amber killed Gizmo, and the Jade Witch killed Socks, why is sully blaming the horde for those? tsk tsk tsk.
After planting the explosives, looting a horde crate, and learning that the horde and hozen are allies, sully sneaks out of the camp and nothing major happens.
What happened? Rell got killed (yep, killed, when Admiral Taylor recalls everyone on the quest "Get back here!" rell is nowhere to be seen, whereas the rest of the team is in place, and we never see or hear from him again, Taylor mentioning on Kun-lai that "they've lost good people along the way". So Rell got killed, offscreen, and he's never mentioned again. Awesome character development alliance.) You find that the hozen are allied with the horde, and that's it. THAT'S IT, absolutely nothing else happens.
Compare that to the horde version pls.SCOUT'S REPORT
Before we start this questchain, Nazgrim sents a scout warparty consisting of Sargent Gorrok, Shokia, Shademaster Kyrin, and a local Hozen named Riko to scout the land, nothing major, just gather intel on the locals. We don't see them for a while and when we get back........ ohh boy, Gorrok is missing, and in the middle of Riko, Shokia and Kyrin, is none other than PRINCE ANDUIN! (So the horde's scout report second half, takes place after the alliance's given that the last time we see Anduin as alliance, he mind-controlls sully to keep exploring pandaria)
So they start narrating what happened.
Again, when it comes to Riko, words don't do it justice, I'll summarize what happened but to those who haven't done it (and don't have any intentions of rolling horde to do them, I strongly recommend reading the dialog on all 4 quests, found here: http://www.wowpedia.org/Quest:Scouting_Report:_Hostile_Natives
They start off near the Hut of the Jade witch (something that actually makes sense given how the Jade Witch lives close to grookin' Hill) where we get some hilarious lines by Riko ("Things was goin' good, so we decided to split up for a bit. Shokia an' Kiryn went off to do some girl stuff
." (Cue Shokia actually saying "Lets go Kyrin, lets do girl stuff" and then they...... they hop away in the girliest way imaginable. Ala Candy-Candy)
Riko even asks Gorrok (who's utterly annoyed by him) which one he prefers, Shokia, or Kyrin, before expressing that he (Riko) prefers kyrin (For Reference, Kyrin is a forsaken, Riko doesn't know that, given how she wears a mask, remember this for later). They meet the Jade witch, who turns Gorrok into Jade (this is the orc seen in the THIRD quest of the SI:7 report) and Riko flees.
While we didnt' learned anything big in here, we at least get some laughs out of Riko.QUEST 2
: In this quest, after having fled from the jade witch, they continue south exploring the land, and reach the serpent's statue (same one where Sully met his raccoons) and after more fun dialogs with Riko, Kyrin and Shokia do about the same as Sully and Amber. One is the sniper, the other is the spotter (Except Kyrin uses smoke bombs rather than a laser sight). After exploring the shrine, Kyrin finds anduin alone (she doesn't know who he is) and takes him captive. And that's all that happened on this quest. Overall, we get some bit of fun dialog with Riko, and we find out how they captured anduin.QUEST 3:
Here's where the stuff gets good. Shokia, Kyrin, Riko, and Anduin keep scouting the forest, and find a crashed alliance plane. Kyrin goes to take a closer look, again Riko delivers AWESOME dialog, and then Kyrin gets trapped in a Jyniu Net.
Riko goes to save her, and while kyrin asks him to save himself, Riko is determined to protect kyrin. After defeating several Jyniu, an alliance soldier shows up, and Riko kills him. This lets the scouting warparty know that the alliance and jyniu are working together. At the end of this quest, Kyrin is impressed that Riko risked his life to save hers (after berating him and treating him and the other hozen like crap). Riko asks if he can get a kiss as a reward (remember this guy has been flirting with her the whole time) and when kyrin says yes and takes off her mask........... well..........Riko yells: WHAT THE OOK IS WRONG WITH YOUR FACE? YOU'RE... YOU'RE JEEKIN DEAD?
Riko yells: AHHHHHH!
Riko runs away from the scene, making crazy monkey sounds.
he then says this other gem:
"Yeah, I ran away. So blikkin' what? If it weren't for me, Kiryn would be dead. Oh, wait... she's already dead... already...
Go away! Riko's head hurts.
Just lol.QUEST 4:
Down to now 2 people, Shokia and Kyrin (given that gorrok was turned to jade and Riko was MIA) make their way to the Jyniu village for some payback, after knocking anduin unconscious, Shokia takes her sniper rifle and once more, she and kyrin do the same roles as Amber and Sully. This quest plays out almost exactly like the last quest in the SI7 report, with one major difference:
After planting the explosives and preparing to flee, Kyrin is captured once more, and when all seems lost, Riko comes back to the rescue, once again giving GOLDEN DIALOG:Riko yells: I'M BACK, YOU DOOKERS!
Riko yells: I on way, Kiryn! And I don't care about you weird dead face!
Riko then proceeds to kick some ass, chews the net holding Kyrin captive, and once all is clear says "Come on, Kiryn! Let's get the ook outta here
" and carries her, Bridal style away from the village. with kyrin saying his name in a dreamy way. (Again; AWWWWW =D)
Funny part is that after this is complete, Kyrin acts all "Tsundere" around Riko, and Riko, even after seeing Kyrin's dead face, still has the hots for her. I'm SOOO shipping those 2.
So, Neon, go ahead and tell me that the boring, confusing, and downright non-sensical alliance version is better.
You know, even though I can't deny I have a horde bias, I can admit when one side is better and when it is not. But this is one of those times where the horde version is simply hands down WAAY better. No bias here. Riko is hands down, awesome, and the rest of the squad (Gorrok being the exception) is one you get to care about.
SI:7? they could all die (minus sully) and I would not care one bit. They're just bland, and unimportant. Worst yet, we only see them all ONCE. Gnome? we see him once. Draenei? once on Jade forest, and once in kun-lai. Elf? once in Jade Forest. Sniper? once in jade forest, and while technically she is in Lion's landing, she doesn't issue any quests other than the breadcrumb to the skyfire. Only sully was the one polished well developed character along with Taylor. Tsk tsk tsk.
Not to mention how the Scout's report has a bigger conection to the jade witch. We (horde) got to her hut to rescue Gorrok (who's still turned into jade) when we get the quest on dawn's blossom. The alliance goes there, and they don't even get to see Socks spring back
