Kara's got pretty much nothing in the way of plate DPS. Don't be afraid to wear leather or mail if it's a stat upgrade. Just be sure to keep plate around in case you need to offtank something.
Of course, let rogues/hunters/shamans have first go at the leather or mail unless you want to make enemies quick.

get your dps gear from PvP. you can grab t4 head/gloves, weapons, jewelry, but everything else is not suited for you.
Gladiator stuff is okay for fury, but should really only be used as placeholders for stuff that doesn't have a majority of its budget wasted on resilience and stamina.

There's quite a few Heroic badge rewards, last I played, that should still be useful for you.
For example, you can get the
Choker of Vile Intent
from Badges instead of waiting on the Kara drop & then there's some other things afloat such as
Midnight Legguards
from Heroic Slave Pens.

PvP is ok, but it lacks +hit which is important as fury. glad gear doesn't need as much hit on it because it mase made for an arms warrior. I would rather be in all leather than have all glad gear, but thats just me sinceyou shouldn't be getting hit anyway.

Many people will tell you that Hit Rating is the most important stat for a Fury Warrior. This is both correct and incorrect at the same time.
After extensive testing and theorycrafting, a Warrior by the name of Meeks has concluded that Hit Rating is the single most important stat up until a certain point. That point would be 95 Hit Rating, plus the Precision talent. Once you are at 95 HR, your special attacks (such as Bloodthirst, Whirldwind, and Heroic Strike) will never miss. Beyond 95 HR, it is best to focus on your Attack Power and Crit, as they will benefit you more than HR will after that point.
You will find, if you do a bit of gear-searching on Wowhead, that 95 HR is extremely easy to obtain. You should have no problem getting it with pre-Kara gear. Again, at this point, AP and Crit are more important. HOWEVER! A common misconception is that anything past 95 HR is a waste. This is quite ironic, actually; half of the times people say you need to stack 250+ HR, and other times people will tell you to stay at 95HR or less. They are both wrong.
More HR after 95 certain helps your DPS, just simply not as much as AP and Crit will. This means that you should never sacrifice AP/Crit for another, unless the gains and losses even out. Sacrificing 10AP and 5 Crit for 20 HR is reasonable. Sacrificing 40AP and 15 Crit for 25HR would be considered rather unreasonable. Also, you should never, at any point, gem for +HR, unless you are below 95 HR, but in that case you simply need better gear. The best gem for a Fury Warrior would be a +8 Str gem (do not use +16 AP gems; Str scales with % buffs, AP does not), and for items with Yellow Sockets that you would like to get the bonus for, use a +4 Str/+4 Crit gem. Those are the only two gems that are worth socketing.
There are a couple of good Fury pieces pre-Kara. Don't be afraid to use leather! Many times, you will find better stats on leather DPS gear than on plate DPS gear. However, please be courteous and pass it to the Feral Druid or Rogue if they really need it. A couple of pieces you may want to be on the lookout for is the Fel Leather set (Leatherworking), Cloak of the Inciter (Shadow Labyrinth), Midnight Legguards (Heroic Slave Pens), and Choker of Vile Intent (Heroic Badges), for starters.
I would advise against picking up a full set of plate Heroic gear for Fury DPSing. You may look at it and think, "Wow, sockets! Armor penetration! +HR!", but in reality, it's not all that great. They are great as filler pieces, which are meant to be used in a slot that perhaps you cannot upgrade for a long time despite the fact that you need one, or a slot that you may have been getting unlucky with drops in. The biggest flaw with the BoJ gear is the lack of Crit, which is a rather big deal. Pick up one or two pieces if you need to, but don't get all of it and expect to have the best Fury gear available.
Hope I was of some help. Let me know if you'd like more advice.

For crit, you need as much as it takes to always have flurry up. 33% crit sounds like a good number since that will give you a crit ever 3 hits.
Sounds like 95 hit rating, 33% crit, and stack lots of Str. I would say that after that point you could probably get some ratio like
2 str, 1 crit rating, 1 hit rating.

Thank you very much for the advice everyone, and especially Denkou. I read the thing about 95 hitrating as well and from what I can read in your post it makes sense to look at the old saying that 1 hit = 1 crit = 1 str and change that into 1 hit < 1 crit < 1 str once you get beyond the 95 hit cap.
Regarding gear and not using plate, it was the solution I came up with but was rather afraid of suggesting it on the board, never know where those trolls are hiding. But it does make sense that stats are more valuable than mere physical damage reduction, especially in raid situations.
Denkou I have to admit I appreciate that you recommend me to stay away from Heroic badge gear as I really didnt look forward to doing that grind..
Regarding further advice, I was wondering, considering 2x 2.6 weapons, is there some sort of cap of crit rating you should aim for at which point strength starts becoming more useful. Something about white and yellow rolling on two different tables and crits affecting it in different ways. What I am hinting at is that there should be some point where crit will be able to maintain fury and further crit beyond that is wasted. I am suggesting 2x 2.6 axes here as appearently the game will then give you 4 flurry attacks if you use samespeed weapons as long as you hit in sync (which is most of the time). With different speed weapons the crit rating should be higher.
Final question, when it comes to the gladiator gear, how much "dps" am i missing out on here because of the resilience points wasted. 95 hit rating should be doable with just neck+rings+glad gear without slotting for it.
You are very welcome :)
As the poster above me stated, 33% Crit in Berserker Stance should be okay. That means that theoretically you should crit one out every three hits, and since Flurry is crit-activated and gives you 3 charges, this works out rather well. People will often say something like "Get enough Crit to stay Permaflurried", well, this is what Permaflurry means.
Two weapons of the same speed are great if you can get them. Yes, it is true that you will gain 4 Flurry charges instead of 3. It certainly is nice to have, but don't use two crappy weapons just for the speed if you can get 2 different speed weapons that are way better. The Gladiator weapons are pretty good for starts, they have nice DPS and give a nice amount of stats as well. Make sure that if you have a weapon expertise racial, then you should use two of that kind of weapon. So for Humans, use 2 Maces/Swords (No difference, but I think Swords look a lot cooler), and for Orcs, use 2 Axes.
The PvP/Gladiator gear/armor (not talking about Weapons) is great for PvE DPS, believe it or not, but by no means should you pick up 5/5 S1 and expect to be top DPS. People will probably laugh at you or call you a noob for using the PvP gear, but ignore them. A few pieces are fine. A full set is not, but nothing wrong with picking some up to replace some of your worse gear. I personally am using the bracers, chestpiece, belt, and soon-to-be, neck.
Also, this is common sense, but many people don't follow it. DON'T JUDGE BY COLOR! Just because something is epic does not mean it is better for you than a blue. It is purely situational and depends on what stats you need to buff a bit, but a lot of times blue gear can be very close in stats to Epic gear.
For example, I just made this amazing discovery last night. Bladed Shoulderpads of the Merciless, an epic shoulder piece from the Chess Event in Kara, compared to Ragesteel Shoulders, a Blacksmithing recipe drop which does not require any raid reagents to make.
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28755
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=33173
The Bladed ones are pure DPS stats. There is no way you can say that this benefits Rogues more than Warriors, besides the fact that it is leather. There are no item budget points used on Agility or Dodge, so it is not a "LOLROGUE!" piece. Now by using Ragesteel Shoulders over them, and taking into account the socket bonuses, you get:
+6 Attack Power
-1 Crit Rating
-7 Hit Rating
-18 Stamina
Stamina is not an important stat in raids as you will not be getting hit. There are also 2 Yellow Sockets on both so it evens out. But look at that, -1 Crit and -7 Hit, and even +6 AP by using a BoE crafted blue over a raid epic. Remember that most people will agree that Hit is not as important as made out to be, so the loss of 7 Hit and will be negligible. The mats for Ragesteel are fairly easy to farm, so you should no problem getting them, even less so if you are a Blacksmith yourself. I farmed the mobs it drops from for about 10-15 minutes last night and picked up the plans.
I'll keep my eyes on this topic to help you out some more if you need it. Good luck.

This statement is very much true. I will say I do agree with Denkou that, just as Meeks has written, it is better to start focusing on your crit & ap, etc. after ~95 hit rating (remember, you need Precision
and
the 95ish). The total actual rating would be closer to ~142 so it actually is a fair amount of hit rating involved.
I would like to reiterate what Denkou said about the misconception that once you get 95 w/ Precision you can stop; this is simply not the case! You shouldn't ever turn down hit rating, it
will
help you (unless you have about 400 hit rating?), however it takes a backseat to crit & ap after the ~95 threshold.
Denkou was very complete & thorough in his posting & I think that is best exemplified by his statement concerning weapon speeds. If you use two weapons of the same speed, the game is unable to determine which will land an attack first - thusly, you gain 4 charges of Flurry as opposed to the typical 3.
This has been a great thread, imo

33% raid buffed, that is, you probably won't be anywhere near 33% unbuffed until you get into Hyjal/BT gear. Around 24-25% Crit in Battle Stance is good for starting Kara, add in 3% from Berserker Stance, 5% from Leader of the Pack (hopefully your MT/OT is a Druid!), along with Blessing of Kings and Elixirs, and you should have no problem getting around 33%.
Many Fury Warriors are turned down simply because people believe they cannot do DPS. These people are ignorant, and it is very hard to convince an ignorant person. I never try to convince someone to take me, at least not for a PuG, because to me, it's not even worth arguing with the person just for a spot. Find another group and move on. Or, if you are confident in your skill/gear (hey, I am...), offer to pay everyone in the group 10g if you do not end up on top of the meters*
*I cannot be held accountable for loss of gold. What you do with your money is your decision, not mine :)
I am usually in the top 3 for DPS, against a Rogue and a Warlock, although all of our DPS classes are very close in terms of DPS. We don't have any Enhancement Shamans so I can't give you an opinion on that, but I am usually neck-and-neck with our Rogues. We have AoE advantages though, so that can help you to get on top a bit.

I'm currently listing information to be added to the FAQ at the top. While I can't say a "How to play" section is in the works, it's something I will give great consideration (sounds good actually).
-----
Rogues will outshine you no matter what you do for several reasons. The primary reason being they have aggro management (they can instantly wipe their threat clean & start over, while pushing out incredible cooldowns & combos. This ties directly into your question about DPS in groups & raids...
Warriors are directly throttled by two things: rage & threat. While rage is a lot better than energy, it still restricted to a degree considering you only rage dump with over 50 rage, etc. That's hardly even worth mentioning because the big thing is threat: warriors have no way to reduce or wipe clean their threat.
This was changed a couple patches ago, to help us out by reducing our threat while in Berserker stance (Imp. Berserker stance talent). That directly translates into more damage being dealt, but we still must stop our DPS when catch up to the tank. That won't likely ever change...
-----
The trick to getting yourself into groups is, of course, to be upfront with your intentions; let them know you are spec for DPS & that is what you wish to do. Furthermore, you have to actually back up that claim & DPS like a mad man. Getting the reputation for a good player will only increase your chances of being invited back; once you get the first group, you've made an extended network of 5 people.
Be cautious! Whatever you do, don't pull off the tank so often you ^&*! him off...certainly don't challenge him. Anyone can pull aggro if they try; you don't want to look overly ostentatious.
If something happens in the group, whether the mage forgets to resheep things or the tank is brain-dead at pulling, find a new friend in one of your groupmates. Talk to them & establish direct communication; this could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
