This
is my main. Besides enchants what can I actually do to upgrade my character? I've seen the lists, but I'm clearly not running any HoL or Naxx any time soon. Assuming I'm on a low fund (500g max) what can I upgrade my main with?

You could probably get away with doing some of the middle tier heroics at this point as I see you've done some of the easier ones.
Shoulders from Svala in UP
Gloves from last boss in DTK (it's not so bad except bleeds on Dred )
Swap to balance and quest for resto gear.
Going for a MH/OH instead of a staff will increase SP as well, at the sacrifice of some stats.
The list in my How to Tree guide covers all the gear you should be aiming for before you start raiding.
You're right about middle tier heroics
I have already done UP- i think- and i've done Dred. I think i'll try that. thanks

Simple - find a guild that will carry you through raids for the sake of having a geared healer, then get caught up quick. Within a week and a half of hitting level 80, my druid had basically full U10/U25 gear, with the weapon from H ToC (5 man), excepting trinkets and back, because my guild wanted a good resto druid and I was going to give that to them once I got geared.
Farming Reg ToC 5-man and doing H ToC 5-man is a great way to get gear, as is doing the daily heroic every day (or heroics in general). If you're uncomfortable healing an instance, go as balance - the drops (should the healer need it, anyway) will be the same and its easier to carry a DPS than a healer.
BGs is another idea. I currently raid with Relentless gloves, bracers, belt, and boots; because I dont want the crit and I'm above the haste cap, or they were enough of an upgrade over my other piece (e.g. 251 pvp gloves vs. my old 219 pve gloves). Its especially easy to get e.g. Furious gear from those, particularly if your faction controls WG and/or BGs in your realm and battlegroup, respectively.
As mentioned above, farming Heroics for badges and getting BoE crafted (or dropped) gear is another viable alternative.
