Fury/Arms VS Prot

OK... so let me just start off by saying i know nothing about any of the trees... I am actually a 70 kara geared BM hunter... but my guild is haveing an issue with certain warriors so i figured id do a lil research before completely going apeshit on em. This particular warrior is currently a fury/arms hybrid and has no desire to tank (even though we are in desperate need of another tank). All he likes doing is PvP but he is lvling to 70 and runs with the guild in runs. I and a few other ppl have expressed the need to swith to prot for tanking purposes and he refuses to do so, "Fury is so much fun!" he says. His argument is that as a fury warrior hes still wearing plate therefore can take more damage and still dish out a good amount of dps.
This sounds absolutely ludacris to me. I understand that Fury is the accepted spec for PvP (correct me if wrong please) but isnt really a viable tanking spec. Too me it sounds like hes settling for mediocrity (no really good tanking abilities compared to the other spec and a lot less dps than the main damage dealers in the group).
Am i completely off base with this? If not, any suggestions at convincing this guy that he needs to switch, (ill add that unfortunately he is one of the founding officers of the guild so kicking him isnt an option).

Fury is primarily a PVE dps tree, but this goes with dual wielding. If he's using a two-hand then he should be using Slam for damage, which is a complicated method to perfect (in order to really pull off good damage).
There are Fury warriors who primarily dps, but their job is to offtank trash & as needed on bosses. For this reason, they are Fury/Prot. Hybrids (though there are some who are arms/prot). If he doesn't have any in Prot. then he's pure dps & 100% unsuited for tanking at raid level, imo. Either way, they almost always have at least 15 points in Protection. It's really simple.
If he isn't willing to do the work, then he doesn't deserve anything. What you get is determined by the effort put forth & if he doesn't have a full tanking suit with 490 defense at least, he's not interested in helping the raid at all.
He needs to spec according to his job & set his priorities. If he has so much fun PVPing then he needs to go back to battlegrounds & be content. If he yearns for something more from the game, then he needs to show he means business.
A warrior in Karazhan has no excuse for not having another set of gear (for tanking), imo.

As a warrior leader in my guild I always look for warriors that are willing to spec prot for what the raid needs. If they don't want to tank at all they will never have priority in a raid. If they are arms spec I don't want them in my raid. There are a couple boss fights where arms is good, but fury is much better overall. Arms just lacks the utility that fury has.

I and another warrior (whichever one was in the raid at the time) have offtanked Kara as arms PvP builds in Season 2 gear with a few tanking pieces (like trinkets). Kara is really not all that people crank it out to be - you *can* offtank it as a PvP / DPS warrior with good gear as long as you have at least half a brain. I really don't see the issue with him not wanting to go prot - if you have a MT and your healers are good enough, you won't need another prot warrior. An extra DPS warrior can also fulfill two roles - DPS when necessary and tank when asked, as opposed to a prot warrior being very close to the status of a dead weight on fights that don't require an offtank.
An arms / fury warrior can also add extra damage for all your physical DPSers with Blood Frenzy (+4% dmg) and imp slam DPS is amazing in 10mans.
