BM is instawin damage-wise.
Frost pretty much just steals your keyboard from you, breaks it in half, throws it into a blender, sets the blender on fire, nukes it, melt the remains, Feeds it to a pack of wild animals, stick the animals in car battery acid, take the remains and sticks it in another universe and destroys that universe.
MM i have no idea.

Frost Mage is doing pretty well right now.
I would venture to say more than pretty well. They're doing incredibly well, enough to be tuned down slightly. But design-wise they're at a sweet spot. The class
feels
impressive right now. Incredibly fun to play, lots of tricks up their sleeves that keep in line with their role of control-happy cannons. With a bit of practice and skill their control and escapes offer survivability well above par for pure DPS classes.
If you want a fast-paced, control-happy, big-numbers ranged DPS, frost mage is king right now, not just because of their viability but because they're exceptionally fun to play and have a nice skill curve that's neither too hard to begin learning, nor too easy to leave you bored.
can't get around the fact that you're wearing cloth and will take a ton of damage until you get some decent gear.
That's true for everyone, with maybe a few exceptions. You can't expect to compete until you have gear. The great thing about ranged classes is, if you're clever you can usually find ways to avoid being trained in random BGs so as to actually serve some purpose while gearing up.
BM is instawin damage-wise.
This is true. BM was very overtuned in 5.0, but they're getting the adjustments necessary to bring them in line. Don't roll a class because it's instawin. If you let that be a crutch, you'll never develop any real skill, then when the class gets nerfed back into line (soon) you'll find you're not really good at the class, and you may not even like the class after that.
(And in my opinion, hunters are boring by design when it comes to PvP.)
