I know, all you DK lovers are going to cry and say that that would be too much like thier talent.
DK's took it from Shamans, so they better not say such a thing.
And, talking sense here, it is not 'normal' for a DK or, in your event, Frost Mage to be able to walk on water just by freezing the water below his/her feet. Try walking on slabs of ice less than 2m in diameter, and you'll see why.
Shamans, however, tap into the spirit of Water to grant them suspension. Water is a pretty strong force, so I bet it's able to give them that.
not really adding much to the thread here but... I'm from Newfoundland and we have the seal hunt, which involves just that. Running across 2m pans of ice all day. It's not nearly as hard as people make it out to be.

But they can't wear anything other than robes?
Perplexing...Apparently you haven't seen the pearly prissy pants from the T8 gear. ;) I hate the look of it.
Anyway, wait for the next expansion. There's been a mass-homogenization of classes. Mages will probably get something new and exciting to make sure they're not left out in the cold. Plus if you really need to walk on water, ask an alchmist to make you a water walking pot. :D It's always good to have an alchemist friend in your pocket.

I guess that from this point of view a Mage skimming on water is more plausible than a Death Knight...The laws of reality don't apply to something that's already dead. ;)
