Just wanted to get a straw poll on people's thoughts on FF significant battle music.
I've got samples here from a few of the games (missing others because either a) I'm not sure what the appropriate battle music that comes up would be, or b) that game doesn't have a recurring super-boss / theme).
FF7 - J-E-N-O-V-A
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZdLmsOFxEc
Boss: Who else?? JENOVA herself, as well as the first stage of the final fight with Sephiroth
FF8 - Premonition
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDVimuFBkhY
Boss: Sorceress Edea, then later, Sorceress Ultimecia in the first stage of the final fight.
FFXIII - Fighting Fate
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbMbQLUr9cA
Boss: Barthandelus, pretty much all fights with him.
FFXIII-2 - Caius's Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zp_4MQK9kXE
Boss: Caius, in all fights, as well as the first stage of the final fight
So, one thing I noticed in compiling this list was that the recurring bosses are, notably, THE bosses in the end, or tied extremely closely to the bosses in the end in a significant way. This explains why I can't find something suitably similar for Kuja, for example (i.e. they weren't important enough to have their own theme).
Anyway, just wanted to take a poll - what order would you put these in in terms of their regular super-boss-fight appropriateness of music? Final boss music will be a completely different story - this is the regular 'oh that's right, that's who the big bad guys is' music.

I really liked Caius' Theme and Fighting Fate. But I'm biased.

FF9 had the Waltz themes(the Black Waltzs), and Kuja had multiple mini-mixes of his own theme through out the game, depending on if it was him in a cut scene or in actual game play.
There's also Succession of Witches from 8, which plays when all three of them around.
I think it's funnier that Squall's theme is played during the final boss fight with Ultimecia; Maybe I'm a Lioni.
Honestly Squish, look up the Dissidia song list; they took all of the best songs from the 13 games and put them in; nothing like fighting Jecht while Overworld plays after all.

The FF8 one is the best out of those 4

FFIII for Android:

Does anyone else know if it's true that you can't play it in airplane mode (i.e. no network connection)?

No clue Squish; though, why not just pick up a cheap DS and the copy for it there, then you don't have to worry about that =P.

Because that would involve shelling out for FFIII on DS (which is more expensive over here) and carting yet another device around. I don't actually use my DS for anything, it's sitting at home gathering dust. Planning on introducing my girlfriend to Pokemon Red/Blue on it.

Heh, hey, just saying, since that's pretty much the exact same game you can access on the Droid. And if you aren't using it for anything, then should pick up FF3 =P.

Yes I know I just said I'd be going to bed but had this post brewing in my mind earlier today.
So, in regards to the Dissidia series, I've seen people complaining that Squall and Cloud were sent back to being the loaner types they were in the main body of their respective games...and well, it makes sense: The entire idea of the Dissidia Universe is that Heroes and Villains were taken out of their personal timelines and plotted down into the Cosmos Chaos war without any warning. So, it's fairly obvious that Squall was taken before he started learning teamwork was good and Cloud was still the broken person he was in the first half of 7.
Really, all of the characters are broken at times; poor Terra and the absolute hell she goes through in her story lines in the two games(was a Chaos Warrior then joined Cosmos and was turned again) is just the tip of the iceberg.
The only one who's still anything like his main game version is Zidane; but that's to be expected heh, since the monkey man is fairly unshakable and the Genome aspect isn't really brought up that much in Dissidia, beyond the interactions between Kuja and him towards the end, when he tries once again to get Kuja to give up his Darkness and come back into the Light.
The only slight character derailment I don't like was the Cecil Golbez stuff; they tried too hard for the brother vibe but it was more like Cecil couldn't do much on his own without Golbez manipulating things(since he was the mole in the Chaos group).

So been playing a lot of Dissidia 012 lately....and gotta admit, it is still the darkest FF game out there, beating out V, XIII-2 and Tactics when it comes to player punches and pure downer ending.
For those who don't know, the 6 new characters introduced: Yuna, Tifa, Vaan, Kain, Laguna and Lightning all die at the end, sealing the Manikin gate way from the Rift closed for good..and as Manikins don't stop and kill their opponents completely, taking them out of the Cycle, you know the sacrifice was big....though Considering we see the 6 floating before Warrior of Light just as the Cycle is resetting for the 13th War, it may be that Cosmo saved their souls in time and sent them home. Then, during the replay of the first game that is an addition to 012, you run into Manikins of those characters, and seeing how Squall, Cloud, Terra, Onion and Cecil react to them, knowing they can't remember what happened in the 12 Cycle, is just heart braking.
Still, love the game so very much.

Wow, it's been longer than I thought since this thread has been posted in.
Just finished FFXIII: Lightning Returns. Wanted to get anyone else's thoughts on the plot and the game generally, if you've finished it.

Can you add that to the list Squish? And haven't played it, so can't comment.

Done.
And a FF game that you haven't played? I'm shocked ;)

I still haven't finished XIII lol; I've got XIII-2 but haven't picked up Lightning Returns yet...or the FFX/X-2 combo pack.

Got the combo. I've finished FFX before, but my fiancee wants to play it, and I don't have a working PS2 (and she'd rather buy the HD FFX than buy a new PS2... -_-'').
Our current decision issue is whether to finish FFIX (what we were playing before Lightning Returns came out), or move straight on to FFX, which is her preferred game.... That said, we've been powering through FFXIII: LR quite intensely, so we might take a break before getting back into either.
Happy to see the FFXIII:LR boss fight is
multi-stage, btw. I've missed that. Was still a bit easy, though, we powered through him in our first go, despite literally wasting about 2-3 'days' in the game. And they basically hand you the Ultima Weapon on a platter right before the final boss with little-to-no effort.

As IX is one of my absolute favorite games...I'd say finish that. I mainly want the combo because 1) I know my PS2 will die some day and 2) A friend borrowed my copy of X and then he disappeared so need to replace it.
