FFB/focus magic... wtf aggro?

Okay, so I ran 10 man naxx last night with my guild. I have the deep arcane as my main spec, and ran FFB as my offspec (there wasn't another mage in my group, so I put focus magic on the ele shaman that was there)... I would usually do trash as arcane and a couple of the more "run 'n gun" bosses as well.. but I noticed that when doing certain bosses that are little more than a tank and spank, when I was in FFB spec, my aggro was ridiculously high. I actually pulled Saph off of BOTH the tanks, where he proceeded to one-shot me.. There was also a couple occasions where we just moved so quickly after bosses to the next trash pulls that I didn't have time to switch back to arcane, and if i would fire just ONE FFB, i would pull aggro.. has anyone else run into this problem? I do have omen, and I do watch my threat, but i'm just not sure how to compensate when i'm critting for 15k FFBs, and my LB is critting every other tick, Ignite is going to town on them... how do i get better at managing my aggro? I can't pop mirror image on every pull, and even if i DO use it on bosses, it simply keeps him from coming after me for 30s... It doesn't dump aggro, and it doesn't keep you from gaining aggro overall.
It seems like a stupid idea to have me wait a solid 45 seconds before I start DPSing, but in some cases, that might be what I have to do. The holy pally in the group was joking that he had to put hand of salv on me every cooldown. that just doesn't seem right. \= any ideas?

Try using invisibility just before your mirror image ends. That will drop your threat and give the tanks a better lead.

maybe the tank was lagging.
both tanks? the entire raid? lol

At the start? You should be scorching if there's no one else and you should also be putting up LB. If say you give tank 5 seconds of head time and you can still pull threat without using any CDs then I would say the tanks have problems. Actually rereading what you've said...the tank is probably pretty bad at threat generation. Not much you can do there though.

Invis at 70% and you'll be so far behind in threat that you'll never catch up to the tank again, unless they D/C or something else that's a clear sign of higher powers hating you.

i talked with the tank about it too.. he's a blood DK, and he agrees that his threat generation isn't as good as it was when he was frost.. but then again, i hit a lot harder than other people he's used to running with, so he wasn't ready for it.. we'll figure something out.. lol
btw... i don't scorch because there's a destro lock with ISB in my guild.. i'm sure if i were scorching, that would make a ton of difference in threat as opposed to just tossing an LB on and going apes@%$. lol
thanks for all the advice guys.

Welcome to the world of fire mage. This won't go away and everyone's been spoiled since 3.0 launched.
Aggro has always and will always be the bane of fire mages.
Arcane mages worry about evocation getting smashed around or timing mana and cooldowns
Fire mages worry about aggro and managing threat cooldowns, etc.
Also - if you have a tank with mediocre threat gen - either teach the guy to generate more or swap to acrane (really)
EDIT: and FFB w/Focus = best raid spec...holy lord. I crit something like 68% of the time and I didn't have a moonkin or elemental shaman in this random KT 25 pug that asked me to come for KT.
you should try FFB/focus on the loathieb fight... your crit% will actually show up as over 100% on your character info.
see... i can manage my mana cooldowns and deal with being tossed around during an evocate on occasion, and manage that just fine.. i've played arcane for a much longer period of time.. i guess i just need to figure out how to handle things more as the FFB spec and their lack of aggro reduction.

i always found myself highest on threat even when i was not #1 on damage
with that being said, i felt i could pull off a lot of tanks but only pulled off 1 after waiting 15 seconds to nuke them
the tank had no expertise from gear and low hit rating so i guess it was to be expected

if it were a question of my tanks being undergeared, okay i could see that.. they're pretty well geared (both have 4/5 set bonuses.. some t7, some 7.5).. i think it's just the fact that blood dks have a little more issue holding threat compared to a frost/unholy DK. so i'll just hafta hold back for a bit..

Ok, i tried searching and didn't come up with anything. This is the first thing that I saw about the casting FM on someone then switching spec back. I'm have a problem with it falling off after like 1min? Is it doing it to everyone or am I doing something wrong or something?
it's falling off of the person you're casting it on after a minute or two? hmm... maybe wow went in and hotfixed it already.. =\ FML...
it worked alright for me just the other day..

I can pull aggro with arcane. You just figured FFB is even worse :) Crit rates of FFB in 25 man raids can exceed 75%. And I'm not talking Loatheb.
Sapphiron is a bad fight as its frost AoE damage denies using invisbility.

Can you link your FFB/FM Spec?

Theres no FFB/FM spec. There are 2 specs: FFB(
most common one
) and some 11+arc points for FM (usually pvp build).
Yes, ty I understand that there is a common FFB build, I am currently using it myself.
I was interested in seeing what build this OP is using to get 15k FFB crits while still getting to FM.
