Feral Stats ---> I'm confused

Okay so I've been reading around and asking my 70 druid friends about feral stats, people are telling me stats are reversed in cat/bear form than their pure classes(not counting STAM) as in, AGI is better for bear form and STR is better for cat (Rogue uses AGI but Warr uses STR, see? reversed!) Anyways my question is, are people just trying to mess with me or is this true? If it is true can someone explain why?

Its somewhat true, but an over-simplification.
In Bear form, Agi contributes to your dodge chance and crit chance, which improve your mitigation and threat/rage generation (via Primal Fury) respectively. Str increases your attack power, so its still important at high level to increase your threat generation. Its just not as important as Agi
In Cat form, Agi increases both your crit chance and attack power and a rate of 1 AP/Agi. Str increases your attack power, but at a rate of 2 AP/Str. A balance between the two stats is optimal. Increasing your Strength will cause you to do more base damage, but Agility will make you crit more often.
Hopefully that explains things a little further.

For tanking ( = bear ) you should take agility over strength. Agility will not increase your attack power that much, but will also bolsert your threat generation by increasing your crit chance. Additionaly agility will add to your avoidance by increasing your chance to dodge. Strength on the other hand will only increase yout attack power. While i would not completely ignore strength, i would recommend to put your focus on agility and a lot of stamina.
Cat form on the other hand can be geared in two ways. You could go for burst damage via crit chance or for sustained damage by focusing on raw attack power. Both is viable. You could argue that going for crit is more of a pvp spec, and sustained damage is more a pve build, but that an overgeneralization in my opinion. I would recommend to collect a roughly equal amount of strength and agility on your cat gear.
Just my 2 cents. ;-)

tbh you need both stats for both forms, try to keep your stats balanced. Agility is better for bear than strength, but str is also good for bear as more Attack Power = more threat without having to hope that your first few hits crit. The agility for bear is mainly for dodge and more Imp Leader of the Pack self-heals (which triggers on crits). For Cat agility = crit (and dodge) so you need both strength and agility, just make sure none of them falls too far behind the other.

The talent Heart of the Wild increases strength by 20% in cat form. But this talent is getting changed in 2.3 to increase 10% attack power. So taking strength above agility in cat form may or may not be good post 2.3.

I think it will be largely the same after 2.3.
Instead of getting 2.4 AP from every strength, we'll be getting 2 AP, but then at the then end of all that our total AP is multiplied by 1.1. The end result is strength items are as important for feral DPS as they ever were, but we will get more AP out of rogue-style items that have no str, just an AP stat.

It's been Agi for both since TBC. Feral AP weapons are AP in place of a LOT of strength. Like, 300+. To balance the AP/crit ratio, you need to stack a LOT of agility in place. And for bear, it's for mad amounts of dodge.
