I've been playing WoW since the release and my main was a lock. As I progressed through the game and wanted to see my dps improve I asked other experienced Locks what their secrets were. (Besides epic gear) Hands down the number one answer is using a macro.
...
BC raiding warlocks using a dps macro.
Would that be as:
Destruction? Because Shadow Bolt spam really, really needed a macro.
Demonology? Because Shadow Bolt spam really, really needed a macro.
Affliction? Because five different DoTs with different run times, all of which needed to be maintained to maximize dps would have fit into the macro character limits.

making macros means you dont know how to dps normaly.
.
how so? i dont get how it is bad to bind 2 or more ability's or even a whole rotation to 1 button if it means higher dps to him. are you saying you are a better player because you use 6 buttons and he uses 2 or 3, for dps at least i know full well that tanks should be able to change on the fly in the time of need and you cant do that with a macro.
i have what i like to call stupid hands and i click but dose that make me bad at dpsing hell no. im in a 10 man raiding guild with a core group and we all have about the same lvl gear and i still top charts and stay alive doing my job using both macro's and clicking.

ya know, everyone talks about using macros in some way or another. and really the only ones i use are for AotD (i add a sound file lawl) and for my mount so i dont have to use 2 buttons to fly or run :P
i really rather enjoy the feel of having everything at hand where i can see and use as i need it. yes most of the time im going to be grinding away at my usual rotation, but in many boss fights and whatnot theres a lot of moving, a lot of adapting. for me at least having everything out in the open keeps me versitile. and even without any of those macros im one of the best dk dps's on my server >.<
macros vs no macros = playstyle choice but thats about it

Doesn't every tank macro runestrike to all the other strikes? Or does that not count?
#showtooltip Obliterate
/cast Obliterate
/cast !Rune Strike
Does this make me a poor player?
:(

Macros like this are an exception. Any DK tank that doesn't macro rune strike to pretty much every ability is gimping his own TPS. Entire cast sequence macros on the other hand are laughably bad.
Wouldn't do it to every ability, that could lead to be rp starved and then you might not have the rp for IBF/AMS when you need it. Therefor i have a macro to everything except HS.

We've got people asking different questions, and getting answers to other questions. While making an entire cast sequence macro is definitely gimping your DPS, I see absolutely no problem making modifier macros to put 2 and 3 abilities on one button. Using an entire bar for abilities doesn't make much sense when you can just use 4-5 buttons, and the only difference is pressing 3 or Shift3. Abilities like Execute don't need their own bar space after all.

The only two abilities I'd want on one sequence button are IT and PS, just to make it slightly easier to apply them.
Not even, you miss with one or the other and you are screwed. Either you miss the second and have to reapply the first, miss the first and have to move through to the first again (not that bad really), or put both abilities on a separate bar and individually select the one that missed.
Putting both on a modifier macro isn't a bad idea though, as long as you can remember which one is which so you don't double tap them.
