Even though Incendium is spreading silly rumors about he is making a vBulletin itemstats addon, I still think it's a feature that should be widely useable even outside vBulletin (and perhaps other forum types). Therefore I'd like to suggest a feature which is perhaps a bit heavy, and yet an easy solution (provided one knows how the heck to code it!).
You know the
MMO-champion.com Signature Generator? It's a php scripted png generator of sorts and it parses several forms of info into images that people can use on other sites like forums. I was thinking a similar feature for the viewing of Itemstats on external sites. You'd then go to an item / spell / etc here, click a button and get a copy and paste string that contains a link to the item and a png image of the item tooltip which then can be pasted into whatever people like, without having to install additional scripts and addons to their websites. I know that it would most likely be a big load on an already heavily visited website, but it'd bring even more users in and it would be a feature that'd be widely used.
Does this make sense? ^^

I realize that there are existing itemstats stuff, but none of them support Wowhead. Yet.
Not entirely true. I've made an itemlink system which uses Wowhead, and it works like a charm - until recently. I've emailed Wowhead a few weeks ago regarding this problem, but no response (yet :).
Since I'm no expert in PHP, I decided to do the heavy coding in ASP. Our guild uses the phpbb forum, so what I did then was make an extra bbcode tag called .
If a user then posts Perdition's Blade, the forum will convert this into a <script> tag that calls my itemscript "server", which in turn does the following:
1) look in local cache to see if the item has been viewed before
2) if found, post the item link
3) if not found, query the wowhead search page and find the item that matches
4) save item link in local cache
5) post the item link
Recently it is no longer possible to get XML results from the search page, which means my script cannot show new items. I could probably do a fix for this, but I am hoping to have wowhead reenable XML results on searches. This way I could expand the script to also show spell information etc. using my itemlink script.
Our forum is closed, so can't show you it live, but you can see it on our DKP site:
http://www.serenity-guild.dk/dkp/viewmember.php?s=&name=MeiaJust hover your mouse on the items in purple (yeah, not many DKP bought epics for me yet ;)
Wowhead, reenable XML results on searches, please? :-)

You can use item names with the item XML feed now:
e.g.
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=bijou%20belongings&xml
