On topic though, no one has mentioned the buff that slightly counteracts this, the fact that mp5 on items is going up by 25% across the board. No, this does not make up entirely for the 50% nerf to illumination, but it wasn't supposed to. I personally am of the mind that a 50% illumination nerf is a bit much (I'd say something along the lines of 40-45% mana returned on crit would suffice), but holy paladin mana was simply lasting too long before given the amount of hps we could put out in a raid. Also, for 2v2 and 3v3 arena, try a roughly half holy/half ret build, going far enough in to take JotW if you're having trouble keeping your mana up; that'll solve your problem.

I think they're much more likely to just roll stats into one, or if not one, then fewer overall, consolidating stats like sp, mp5, spirit, crit so that they can more easily control the level of mana regen that classes have.
The way it is now, it must be a nightmare trying to balance out all those attributes.
But if you roll them all together -- or mostly together -- yes you get more homogenization, but you also can control the classes/specs much better.
Which also means that pvp will break pve more than ever, but I fully expect it to happen down the road.
I don't know about that...
Consolidation happened with generic hit/crit rating, generic spell power, I can't see how they can readily combine mana pools and mp5 short of removing mp5 from itemisation.
As for PvP vs PvE - they can't do anything that breaks PvE generally (and levelling PvE specifically). Any compromise that Blizzard makes will undeniably be towards the people who are paying more towards Blizzard's bottom line. All the changes that have been made to date to make levelling to 80 easier are to encourage new subscribers to play. PvP enhancements won't impact on them at all.

No, but the improved Beacon makes Paladins a more effective party healer. Without knowing the changes to mana cost, mp5, the details of the FoL HoT, it's too early to make a judgement call on how good or bad the changes are. Caean's right - just holster it until the patch comes out, then see how things are.
