I want to know if haste is better than crit for a raiding ele shaman...
I know back in TBC I stacked haste and worked really well but idk in wotlk as I just came back on my shaman. Any hint? thanks
Also is mp5 useful for ele?

OK in honesty I kinda wonder this myself at times, but I will tell you the haste cap is getting a lightning bolt down to 1.6 sec so that you can cram 5 of them in between LvB's
yeah I haven't done it yet, but i'm close... if you're close tho it kinda drains mana a little but you can just shove CL before your LvB as the 5th LB

What I can say is:
More haste = more overloads
More crits = more direct damage
Anyone can stil lanswer my question?

hmm I'd say probably 500 haste total and according to what i've been seeing 11% for shamans, though alliance numbers change slightly since they have squiddlydiddly with his bonus to hit along with the talent that gives 3%,
so its like 14% for horde = 11% + 3% talent + Raiding Priest or Moonkin
and 13% for Alliance = 10% +3% +1% from racial + raiding priest or moonkin

I haven't played with the math or done dummy testing for this exactly, but I find that with my current ~24% crit chance, that I'm critting often enough to keep
Elemental Oath
running almost constantly.
I haven't geared, gemmed or enchanted deliberately for crit either. I choose haste over crit always, if that's the choice I'm given at the time.
For the record, my haste is approaching 500.

elemental oath should ALWAYS be up since you are guaranteed a crit every 8 seconds from lava burst
I think windsturm was refering to the secondary effect from the
Elemental Oath
-talent, that comes from
Elemental Focus
; Keeping that up is a permanent 10% damage bonus, but it wears off if you have not critted for 3 spells.

Yep, that's what I was referring to. I could have been more specific.

If your draenei hitcap is 10%
If your Horde or dont got a draenei in raid ( :o ) its 11%
hitrating% from talents doesnt show on your char screen
1%+10%+3% ( talents)+3% ( Spriest/boomkin ) = 17%
11%+3% ( talents)+3% ( Spriest/boomkin ) = 17%
Haste cap isnt a exact thing kinda... it depends on your latency... you should aim for a LB of 1.6 cast time. This is around 520 haste.... a bit more if you got a bit high MS

If under 500 haste then haste > Crit . If over 500 haste then Crit > Haste.
At current gear levels there is not enough haste avaliable to reduce the cast time of LB enough to really make any difference after you hit 500 haste.
How on earth are you arriving at that conclusion?

I wouldn't question Bink, he's kinda the forefront of Elemental DPS

So what? If someone is genuinely interested in the answer to a question and they do not understand someone else's point of view asking questions is necessary. Questioning someone is not an insult; this is a forum after all.
Indeed. Getting a solid source stating a point works for most, but if you actually understand the fundamentals behind it, you're not just the naive sheep in the flock.
Yet, still, I've tried doing alot of the Theorycrafting myself, and read alot of the stuff... and I've seen why what Bink writes is the truth. Maybe not completely down to the digits, but I can grasp it. Just doing that takes you a REALLY long way.

It's simple: over 500 haste allows you to reduce LB's cast time to 1.6 sec with ToW. This means you can cast 5 LBs and the CD on your LvB will end exactly when you finish the last LB. It optimizes your rotation. If you have latency/performance issues you may want slightly more hast to balance it out. Amount of haste required to cast 6 LBs between LvB is so high it's not worth it and too low haste forces you to choose: cast a filler and casl LvB a sec later or just wait some time w/o casting and reduce the dps.
Optimizing your rotation roughly equates to "it makes stuff fit better" which roughly equates to "I can count numbers in my head without having to think to hard about it".
I've said it many times, there is no haste cap short of the soft 50% and hard 100% caps when you hit 1 second cast times. First off, I'm assuming you have read my
blog entry on haste
, so when I say that even if you are in one of those small areas where haste EP might be devalued slightly, it is still better to gear haste over crit. That said, the only time this question will come up is when you're evaluating gemming choices, because it's going to be rather silly to re-jig your gear to keep to a certain haste level.
TL;DR version: Do the math, haste > crit.
