Please rate
this
Dual Wield Tanking build. I made this in a couple of minutes and I was wondering whether I missed something or not.
I'm going to start Dual Wielding when 3.2 launches and I'm planning on using
Infantry Assault Blade
as my Main Hand and
Red Sword of Courage
as my Offhand. Are those any good?
Also, here is
my armory
. I'm going to swap some of the gems for hit of course. Please tell me what to improve.
Yours,
Kyura

Use the Argent Tournament axe instead of Infantry Assault Blade.
I'd say you should ditch the thought of Necrosis and Morbidity and get Bladed Armor. Also, ditching icy talons and improved icy talons will let you get Black Ice and Chill of the Grave.

The big flaw in Dwield tanking is the heavy need to stack +hit while maintaining respectable expertise, health, and def/dodge/parry which would call for virtually the best gear available in 3.2 if that would be enough even.
With that being said, something like
this
might work.
-
Lichborne
to toss
Death Coils
on yourself for the damage you'll be taking with less avoidance.
-
Morbidity
gives both threat and added heals.
-
Glyph of Death's Embrace
will ensure you can toss enough DCs during LB+DC heals.
-
Scent of Blood
will help maintain RP for LB+DC heals.
-
Guile of Gorefiend
will both help with threat and increase the duration of IBF which is a must with the reduced avoidance.
Having to stack hit you'll lose a lot of avoidance and the heals may not be able to keep up with your incoming damage and the incoming damage of the entire raid so if you can pull off Dwield tanking it'd be good to make use of your self healing abilites and all defensive cooldowns as best you can.
Generally blood/unholy/frost tanking=2 hander, blood&unholy dps=2 hander, frost dps=2 hander or Dwield. (I could see
Dwield unholy dps
being potentially effective since it relies heavily on diseases and the pet over strikes which would be less effective from Dwielding)

I will state from personal experience that not having bladed armor is a bad idea in the sense of threat. I was running a naxx one time supposed to be off tanking with another dw DK tank who had far better gear than me as the main tank. My build at the time included included just three ranks in bladed armor, his did not included any and I was stripping agro off of him as was everyone else in the raid. This may change due to the offhand being included in damage for strikes but I doubt it.
That being said I think that
this
will be a good way to go. Frost strike was one of the major threat providers pre 3.2 due to killing machine and its inability to be dodged parried or blocked. So more of them with a reduced cost is a good thing. Whether or not it will remain to be due to the ability for it to be now dodged blocked or parried I'm not sure as I've not played on the PTR at all. Death and Decay Glyph is pretty much a must for any tank for that instant bust threat that helps out a lot. I choose the Icy Touch glyph because it makes things easier to get. One Icy Touch will equal 20 RP. That means that one icy touch will give you the runic power needed for Icebound Fort, Anti-Magic Shell, and Rune Strike. Two gives you a frost strike with some left over thanks to the glyph.
The spec itself when I was working on it always had one extra talent point so I placed it in epidemic to help maintain your diseases for a longer amount of time to get a few more strikes in when you need to.

So if Dual Wield really is that a bad idea and if Frost 2H will be near death, what's the right tree for tanking? I love Frost tanking so I'd prefer not changing to Unholy or Blood.
I used to like Unholy too, but I don't know how it's changed in 3.1 and will change in 3.2. I have never tried Blood but it seems to me like dps :o. Input please?

There's a fatal flaw with this idea, tanks should never have to heal themselves, ever.
Even if you could, why waste the RP on it considering the only real problem with DW tanking in the future will be threat generation? The RP for FS and Rune Strike will be wasted on something your healer classes should be doing.
The thing that bothers me about making a DW tank build is how starved for talent point we are. You're basically pigeonholed in either going into blood for Bladed armor and Scent of Blood, while missing out on unholy talents that might help DW threat generation.

Can anyone link me a viable 3.2 Frost Tanking build for 2H then? I'd like to see where that goes.

It would be the same build as 3.1. Nothing has changed with tanking (other than some talents are weaker than before).

I had listed those self healing talents because with the need to stack hit you'd lose a ton of survivability in the way of both health and avoidance which the heals would most likely not be able to keep up with since even a fully avoidance/stam stacked tank gets into trouble now and then.

There is no good cookie cutter works for everyone frost tanking spec though. Its going to depend on your play style as well as your specific role in your raids that will determine what talents are best for you. So don't take the linked spec as the end all be all frost tanking spec, you will find many people on this forum that wont agree 100% with all the talent choices i picked. But its not missing anything important.

Don't forget that you also need to stack tons more hit and expertise rating in order to DW,
I hate this cliché.
First, the amount of expertise you need is the same whether you DW or not.
As far as hit, once you're at the spell hit cap (the same cap that 2h DK's like to reach with help from IFF/Misery), all +hit after that is affecting white damage only.
at 8%, your strikes are hit capped, at 17% spell hit, your howling blast, and icy touch is hit capped.
You don't see enhancement shamans or rogues going for the full 27% hit cap do you? No, they go for the spell hit cap and stop. When you're getting 65% damage on your offhand, getting to the spell cap will ensure your white damage is doing around the same, or even a small amount more than a 2h weapon's white damage.
I'm not an advocate of dual wielding over 2h for tanking, but you don't have to use scary stories that are exaggerations to get people to not do it. It's currently not optimal. It's not broken in that you can't do it, but it's something you need to work towards after getting the proper gear, which many people feel is a waste.
