Dual Spec = No Mana...BS

I have three 80's, an SV Hunter, Prot Pally & Mutilate Rogue. All three have dual spec. When switching specs my hunter and paladin lose all there mana. Nothing happens to my rogue. Anyone know if this is a bug or it's intended. Nothing sucks more than going from 35K health 6K mana (prot) to 17K Health 22K Mana (Holy) and having absolutely no mana and having to drink when I see Warriors, Death Knights & Rogues switching specs at will without any penalty. Anyone have any insight or input on this?

I'd imagine it's to keep people from fluidly changing specs for situational reasons. The only problem is, like you mentioned, non-mana users aren't penalized in the same way nearly as much. A warrior probably loses all his rage? There's some cost for that if that's the case. My two dual specs both use mana.

Everyone who switches spec using Dual Spec has their resource pool depleted. Warriors lose rage, rogues lose energy, DKs lose rp, and everyone else loses mana. It's not that big of a deal for Warrs, rogues or DKs, since they usually gain their resource pool overtime anyway. But for everyone else it can be quite annoying.
I think it was implemented that way so that someone can't go from a DPS spec to Healing spec and zomgpwn right off the bat. It's mainly a balance for pvp.

They already have it set so you can;t change specs while in BGs or Arenas why would they have a harsh penalty.

Bingo, this is exactly my point, you can't switch specs while in BG's or in Arena's or while in Combat. Their shouldn't be any kind of penalty for paying 1000G.

The only problem I can see here is if you change specs while in WG because you notice a significant lack of healers, and then have to sit down and drink before you're good enough to go, and there's an enemy rogue coming up behind you...
Alternatively
, you could just pop mana tide totem / innervate / divine plea / hymn of hope / a mana potion. Seems like the thing to do in a situation like that.
Edit: For any other circumstance? I assume the average person has the patience to wait an extra 30 seconds after switching specs.

Y'know, I was going to blast this as QQ, because frankly I don't find it that big a deal to drink up after swapping specs.
However, the more I think about it, the more it seems like a rather pointless penalty. I can't really think of a purpose that it serves. If you could swap specs while in PvP or while in combat, I could understand the reasoning behind it, but you can't, so it does seem rather pointless.
Unless - do any of the stealth abilities still drop you out of combat completely? If so then I could see a very situational reason for it: It would be a hindrance to cat Druids and Mages to swap specs in the middle of combat (from feral DPS to healing, or from one element to another). But I thought they'd changed it so those no longer dropped you out of combat.

its to discourage people from CCing others and then switching specs and going all out as that spec.
Uh, aren't Ret Paladins the only class that have a spec-specific CC? And if that's the case, you wouldn't need to switch specs because you're already in your DPS spec.
I guess for world PvP purposes it would be theoretically possible (without the mana drain of spec swapping) to Repentance someone when you get low on health, get out of range and combat, swap to Holy, heal yourself up, and then swap back to Ret before Repentance breaks. That assumes they don't just trinket out of it. But really, that's only one situation - and it's world PvP, not something that Blizzard seems to put a lot of focus on.
