This isn't Guild Wars.
Multi-classing is not something limited to some F2P MMO, it's been an integral part of d&d for quite some time. However, think about it, why do people multi-class? Because certain multi-class combo's are better than pure classes. But "better" isn't something you want in an MMO.

There's also multi-classing in FFXI. I think it would be an interesting idea, just not too sure how they would actually implement it.

I'd have to read more of this system on FFXI. If another MMO already has something like this, it would be a lot easier to
copy
improve on the idea.
It's not like games don't take ideas from one another. Competition etc.
The way they do it in FFXI is what ever level your main class is, your sub class is half of it. So if you are a Lv.80 Warrior, your sub class would be Lv.40. In FFXI I was always Samurai/Warrior.
